Hello everyone,

I have seen many posts regarding very high or 100% cpu usage on asus routers, however I haven't found any posts regarding 0% cpu usage?

Lately I've been having more latency while gaming and one of the things I have noticed is that my router has all 4 cores at 0% with about 15 tabs open, youtube videos, twitch, etc. Sometimes I see 1 % in 1 or 2 cores but that's it. That can't be normal can't it?

Has anyone else had this issue before? If so, is there any fix for this? Do you think this might be related to latency while gaming?

Thank you

What router model and on what ISP plan?

NAT acceleration is enabled by default and the CPU is not doing much. On slower ISP lines low activity is normal.

Unlikely.
Sorry I forgot to put my router model is an RT-AX88U. MY internet has 250 Mbps download speed and I'm on my desktop so it's wired.

That's normal (and a good thing) if you have hardware acceleration enabled as the network processing bypasses the CPU. You will only see substantial CPU usage if you enable features that disable hardware acceleration, like QoS, AiProtection, etc. Here's my screenshot taken whilst doing a speed test from a PC.

I appreciate a lot you replying. I thought that low cpu on router could be causing some issues. I guess I will have to learn to play with more latency. I have tried a VPN and was worse.

I am specifically playing a game that uses TCP so I've read that there's this thing called leatrix latency fix that could help but also read that on Windows 10 it's not needed. So who knows.

Anyways, thank you very much I wish you a very nice day

@Nadergg We commonly see gamers entering forums such as SNB chasing Impossible latency goals, sometimes chasing nano-second reductions. We rarely see them happy with what they discover. You are often not going to improve things over keeping it simple, and if possible use a wired connection. It's systems not magic!

Gotcha. Yeah, sorry for the trouble, I thought it was possible since in this particular game, 100 ms is big deal haha I was just trying to optimize my settings since it looks like I have double NAT and whatnot.

But yeah, I appreciate it, thank you!

Yup 100ms in online gaming is a big deal, but most of that is probably caused by distance to the server, routing, or the server simply not being able to cope! If it is any of those reasons, there'll be little you can do within your own network to help. *Sometimes using a VPN can change the routing and speed things up, sometimes not - as I think you've already mentioned.

You are correct :)

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply
