I was looking at this router for my small office and wondering if it was too slow for general (non-VPN) usage. We will only use the VPN on occasion, but the "normal" routing will be used all day long. While, the USG20 sound like it works well will I regret getting this unit instead of something with higher throughput like the Cisco RV220W?

FWIW, the business is on Comcast business cable. We currently see about 25 mbps down and 6 mbps up.

USG20 can do 100Mb/s through WAN/Firewall. I have installed a couple on Comcast business class 50/10 and had no trouble.

Zyxel is getting ready to release V3.x of their firmware and is seems that they are achieving better performance for the USG series. Take a look at the latest spec sheet for the USG series. You'll notice now they are saying 150Mb/s WAN/Firewall throughput for the USG20.

V3.x is coming very soon. Actually was scheduled for release in Dec 2011, but is apparently late.

Thanks claykin,

You have given me some confidence that I am getting the right product.

BTW, I assume you are the same person that responds to posts on the readynas.com forums? If so, I am thinking about using a couple of USG20s to create VPN between my home and office and running backups between my NASPro and NV+. That should work, correct?

Yes, that's me. :D

You can setup site to site ipsec vpn and use Rsync built into the Readynas units.

If you didn't want to bother with VPN, your Pro supports Rsync over SSH, but the NV+ does not officially. I recall reading about a way to do RSync over SSH on the NV+, but even if you could get it going you may find the NV+ CPU cannot handle it well (meaning really slow performance). Did you check on that through the Readynas forum?

Keep in mind with the USG20 your VPN throughput is limited to 75Mb/s according to the new spec sheet (the old datasheet had 30Mb/s for VPN traffic). I believe the 75Mb/s figure is (ambitious) and for users running V3.x firmware. The problem is V3.x is not out just yet. Its been in closed beta for months with no eta other than Zyxel saying "soon".
