Hi,
I couldn't find an answer online, does anyone know the source/meaning of this message on a AX88?
thx
Code:
kernel: bcm_i2c: bus 0: Failed to detect SFP: 100 retries exhausted

I have no answer other than to say that my AX88U also sees this log message. I assumed that it was the drivers scanning for an SFP at startup, but we know that the router doesn't have a fibre transceiver.

but we know that the router doesn't have a fibre transceiver.

Which is why it reports that message. This is just the kernel driver probing to see if there is one.

thanks. what does SFP stand for?

My guess: small form-factor pluggable (SFP) .. I don’t know if that’s the same used terminology here.

This is quite a nice and short description https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/sfp - wikipedia is a bit more detailed. Essentially a modular fibre transceiver rather than a copper ethernet port.

EDIT: They can be built for ethernet and other types of connection, but typically offer flexibility of connection types when adding fibre connections.
