Has anyone done the upgrade, and was it worth it? Curious If I should do it.

Why not! I did it...Has anyone done the upgrade, and was it worth it? Curious If I should do it.![]()
What are you using your router for?
Mainly for accessing the internet via my tv using my wdtv live hub, the router is actually upstairs, and my wdtv is downstairs, the main issue is range.
I previously had a linksys ea6500, which was horrible in range.
So Im curious what the range and speeds are compared to the 66U from the 68U.
Or as someone else suggested I should wait for the new one to come out.
The WDTV Live isn't ac, it's b/g/n only, so you may do better with a repeater, powerline, or another RT-AC66U as a media bridge. I would opt for powerline. $30-$40. Should solve the range problem. I've used TPL-303E's for years with great success.
Would the powerline be in the same room as the router? or down where the tv is?
never used one of these before.
thanks again for the help.
One powerline unit connects to one of the router's LAN ports and you plug it into a wall outlet near the router. The other powerline unit connects to the WDTV Live's LAN port and you plug it into an outlet near the WDTV Live. That's it. Works great. I use several of these to print massive files to a couple of 44" wide format printers I keep in an isolated room so they stay cool and dust free. Also have used with WDTV Live, although I just do that wireless now since my WDTV Live is only 40 feet or so from my RT-AC66U.
You can't plug the powerlines into a surge protector (well, some work, but not most) but you can turn el cheapo extension cords into LAN cables by just plugging the powerline units into the cord and the cord into an outlet.
