PS3 Wireless Connection Issues w/ AC68U Firmware Update

Poseidon

I recently updated my Asus RT-AC68U firmware to 3.0.0.4.374_5047 and immediately afterwards my PS3 no longer connects to WiFi.

Connecting directly to Ethernet works jusy fine - but not Wireless.

I have rebooted my cable modem and my router + reset PS3 to factory settings but nothing works.

Using "easy" settings, the PS3 can not obtain an IP address.

When I manually enter the settings (including manually assigning an IP address), i get a "failed" connection message (but IP address is obtained).

I've NEVER had this issue before until the last Asus firmware update.

Any suggestions please? Searched the internet and tried a few troubleshooting methods but I still can't get it to work.

Found and fixed the issue - but it doesn't make much sense to me.

Changed the "Control Channel" from a fixed channel (11) to AUTO and only then did my PS3 connect via Wireless.

I've never had this issue before. Anyone know WHY?

I had the same problem with my PS3 not connecting after I upgraded the firmware on my RT-AC66U.

With the previous firmware I had selected Wireless Mode as N-Only and the setting carried over to the new firmware. Well the Playstation-3 isn't Wireless-N capable so I had to switch that back over to Auto. After that the PS3 connected.

My guess is that there was a bug in the previous firmware and even with N-Only selected under Wireless Mode it was still allowing legacy devices to connect.

Spot on, the reason this is most likely happening is because the PS3 only has G wireless so you will need to set your 2.4Ghz band to legacy or auto.

Fully formatted my PS3 (7+ hours) and Wireless worked fine afterwards. I was able to connect to a fixed channel again.

I just purchased an ASUS RT-AC68U this week. I also picked up a Linksys WUMC710 bridge for my living room and I have my PS3 and TiVo plugged directly into it with Ethernet cables. Note that the WUMC710 is a 5GHz "ac" only device.

Since the PS3 natively only supports 2.4GHz "g" wireless, the boost in speed is pretty substantial with this bridge. Of course, I had to go into the PS3 settings and disable the internal wireless and enable the wired port.

I updated the firmware on my RT-AC68U to Merlin 374.40 alpha 4 because of performance issues I was having with my other 2.4GHz devices.

I also updated the firmware in the WUMC710 to version 1.0.01.

Everything seems to be working pretty smoothly so far.
