Two competing and conflicting thoughts right now. OH YEA!!! ... OH NO!!! Ironic.

scMerlin scMerlin 2.5.10 - Service and script control menu for Asuswrt-Merlin, March 2, 2025

After a recent ISP outage, I didn't bother looking at my router for about 5 days. Just noticed that my vnstats were not updating, and the scmerlin hover/tab expansion was not working, then noticed no addon tabs were listed. Not sure if this is a scmerlin issue or something else that...

Receiving packets with own address as source address

I think the question is: "Is this a problem?". For that answer, my opinion is No. My logs have them appear sporadically for years. When they appeared, I too tried to understand the trigger, tried to figure it out, but in the end, I never saw any negative effects, so I eventually used...

[ANNOUNCEMENT] Asuswrt-Merlin 386_x devices are no longer supported

The RT-AC86U hard a rough start and some reliability issues with manufacturing dates and locations but ended up my main mesh setup for years. I think I prolonged the life of mine with a copper heatsink mod. I was going to hand down a spare one to a family member and set up an IPSEC connection...

Anyway to force set the speed of LAN?

Cat 5E is rated only for 1GBps, you need Cat 6 (or 6A). FWIW, the days of overriding negotiated ether speeds is long over - the old 10/100 issues are gone. The negotiation protocols are much more robust and if it says you can only get 1Gbps, then that's all your cable can do.

    Smart (?) Connect

To reiterate what a couple of us have recommended from our experience. It takes time for things to settle down, ESPECIALLY right after a reboot. If you reboot and expect everything to connect perfectly, it won't. Also don't forget, it's the STA (Client) that initiates all communication and...

    Smart (?) Connect

Agreed because there is no one setting that works for all - usually the devices nearing -dBm thresholds may bounce. FWIW, my trigger is the opposite (greater than) of the defaults (less than) for 2.4. My logic is if a client is on 2.4 and has a strong signal, and its phy speed > 90 then it's...

Rt-ac68u with Reolink doorbell rebind attack.

I don't use diversion but I do use scribe with some custom syslog-ng filters, DoT, AdGuard DNS servers and Rebind protection. Because of how DNS filtering works by returning 127.0.0.1 I chose to redirect the massive amount of noise to a different log location. I've spent a lot of hours...

Script to enable VLAN on RT-AX86U Pro and current Merlin firmware

I'm about to be in a similar situation, needing VLAN capabilities for LAN equipment I want on its own IoT isolated address space. Have a new REOLINK 8 Channel/Camera PoE system and plan on disabling it's NAT function so the device and every camera will be on said new VLAN & Address space. I...

Moving from USB Flash to USB SSD

The TL;DR is you probably have better options. On my AC86U (and now my AX86U Pro) I switched from a SSD+ Enclosure to a tiny, fast USB stick. Well, more like a USB Nub - so tiny its just a small bump so you can grab it. SanDisk 128GB Ultra Fit USB 3.2 Gen 1 Flash Drive - Up to 400MB/s...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.14 is now available for AC models

After reverting to 13_2 a couple months back due to oddities, I've bounced back forward to 386.14_2. Does anyone know if the new SDK this is based on adds better nand flash logging? I now suddenly have a slew of new error and warning but can't believe the upgrade is the cause... pehaps...

    DOT & IoT Devices

I've noticed some odd differences betrween my Roku & Fire devices as I try to implement different DNS settings with and without DoT. I believe it has to do with some systems (Fire devices) supporting IPv6 and the fact that Roku does not. In my DoT settings I make sure to add both the...

connmon connmon - Internet connection monitoring

Has connmon been replaced with another utility? I'm looking at rtrmon but I like the simplicity of connmon. I'm still looking for a fix for the scrollbar issue - been reading as much as I can, and even willing to try and edit some code myself If I could find how to (i.e. what and where) Thanks.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.14 is now available for AC models

For the AI Cloud patch - if we don't use it and if we do not have the web UI or SSH exposed to the internet (like we all shouldn't), is there a risk? This seems like an obvious self-answerable question, but I'll ask anyways.
