ASUS RT-AC56R worth it over the RT-N66U?

I picked the AC56 due to the dual core and ram amount over others in the same price point. It has similar specs as the AC68 but with internal antennas and slower AC speed but I have no need for that much wifi speed anyway. Range seems decent but hard for me to tell, in an apartment building way...

    Pity the DNS-illiterate - CNAME + DDNS help s.v.p.

If you already have two DDNS domains updating from your NAS and router, just make a CNAME record in Google and point it to one of those DDNS domains. Very simple DNS entry. I have never used google domains so I can't walk you through it, this wiki article covers CNAME well though...

    Personal AC87 saga

I can confirm the story on Best Buy taking back old items. I worked there a long time ago and a lot of electronics the vendors authorized them to take back defective items and would give Best Buy a refund. There was a y/n flag I think accompanied with a time frame on the good old green screen...

    RT-AC56R Random Lock Ups

Mine has been working fine. I'm still on 54_1 and had the same upgrade path as you. Have you checked the Temps? Mine runs around 80c Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    RT-AC56R Random Lock Ups

AC56U and Merlin 378.53 : intermittent disconnects (both LAN and WLAN)

Oh I think the AC66u doesn't have enough power for the analyzer, so it's disabled from the GUI. Might be a QoS setting. You could also try the stock firmware, or use one of john's forks which are based off the 374 line. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

AC56U and Merlin 378.53 : intermittent disconnects (both LAN and WLAN)

Go to the traffic analyzer page and switch it off. There is a toggle right there. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

AC56U and Merlin 378.53 : intermittent disconnects (both LAN and WLAN)

I will have to turn it off on mine and see if the Temps drop. The info is so buggy and slow right now it is almost useless. One thing I miss from tomato is the ip traffic graphs.

AC56U and Merlin 378.53 : intermittent disconnects (both LAN and WLAN)

Maybe it's the extra features in the newer builds, the Ai Protection, traffic analyzer. Did you have that stuff turned on? I am pretty sure 51 does not have it at all.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

AC56U and Merlin 378.53 : intermittent disconnects (both LAN and WLAN)

It is probably not heat related, probably overloading something with the high connections on the P2P

You can force an update from the GUI also by setting the DDNS to custom and hitting apply.

    DuckDNS Setup

I dont use DuckDNS so I dont know how to add a CNAME in thier interface specifically but here is the wikipedia aricle about CNAME records: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNAME_record Pretty much I just setup the asuscomm.com as normal, very simple setup. Then I went to my namecheap account and...

AC56U and Merlin 378.53 : intermittent disconnects (both LAN and WLAN)

Hopefully someone else who does a lot of P2P can offer some advice. I am betting if you stopped the downloads the problem would go away. There is probably some settings you need to adjust. The P2P makes a lot a connections and puts a lot of load on the router but I would think the AC56 could...

    DuckDNS Setup

I setup the DDNS using the free asus system, and then made a CNAME record in my preferred domain name I use and pointed it to the new asus one. Was easiest that way for me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

AC56U and Merlin 378.53 : intermittent disconnects (both LAN and WLAN)

I'm on the same version, same router. No problems here. Check your idle temps. Mine runs around 80C usually which seems high to me, but it's been running like a champ. Are you doing a lot of P2P downloading by chance? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Ordered a TP-Link Archer C8 but received a Brick.

I upgraded from the WRT54GL to a Asus RT-AC56 recently and can't be happier. If you're thinking of other options.
  18. jtp10181

Is the Asus RT-AC56U still a good option?

The AC56 has been working great for me. Range about the same as my old WRT54GL but throughout is way better. I read some technical reviews showing range was nearly the same for the ac56 and ac68 and I don't need the extra speed. Plus I liked the stand up design with no visible antennas. Well...

Hmm, glad I bought ASUS and not netgear, that was my other option being considered.

    help wanted : disable 2.4Ghz : linksys re2000

See what your log says. Just wondering. Just set a random SSID and a password I guess. Maybe it's a fluke that mine is disabled. The reason it wants both working is to get full speed, by incoming connection on one channel and outbound on another channel. Otherwise it is split speed which...
