    2x2 and 2x3 query

Thank you sir. At last. An insightful and intelligent response. Yes I was wondering whether MIMO meant that a 1 stream client and a 2 stream client could communicate concurrently over 3 streams. This is precisely the question. I agree with you on this and also agree that it's not clear whether...

    2x2 and 2x3 query

Thinking of buying an RT-AC66U. So it has 3 streams on each of the 2 radios. None of our client devices have 3 streams, just 1 or 2 at most. So recognising that bandwidth is shared on any given radio, can 2 stream clients connect to any two of the three streams offered on a band, or...

Idiots guide to using ASUS NAS (AC56U)

agreed. but you can turn this off baggyrinkle in the settings. I use Merlin's excellent image and have USB sharing at the root level. Not secure, but then my network cant be seen from the WAN ! ;) although this comes at a slight disadvantage in that I cannot access it either (outside the home...

how does dual band connection work ..2x 802.11 colleges clients

too complicated for any one to explain. Jeeeez What IS the point of pointing me to Google. Why join a forum to post "Google is your friend". I mean, what is the point if you being a member if that's the best you can do I have my answer ,but not from here !

how does dual band connection work ..2x 802.11 colleges clients

So on my 802.11ac dual CHANNEL 876mbps router If I have 2 laptop clients with dual channel connecting to the router.... Does each one get two channels or just one If just one... Then what happens when if I introduce a third laptop ?? How does that connect, ?

USB NAS and NFS v SMB v FTP , change to NFS!?

I've cracked it! Been trying for days to get decent speed from my USB3 500GB NAS drive over my wireless network. Just using linux "time" command to time real world activities (not lab test and theoretics - just real world). Transfer of AVI movie (735120266 bytes): timings... NFS to...

    AC56U firmware options

I failed to get bridge mode working, my ISP demands PPPoA not PPPoE (as offered by the router). I had the same problem, after trying to configure TPlink8817 in bridge mode (ADSL2+) to the router. In the end I reverted back to TPlink8817 acting as a router/modem/firewall/dhcp server on...

Merlin - USB3 I/O must slower than DDWRT

Ah-ha ! this sounds interesting. xhci is indeed the module loaded however it may be operating in low power or low compatibility mode or something. I'm no expert of the USB stack but noted a few interesting annotations in syslog: extracts from xhci logging Jan 1 00:00:13 kernel: xhci_hcd...

Merlin - USB3 I/O must slower than DDWRT

I will have to check the linux USB and Networking stack on my MINT Petra 16 build. I might install Arch linux as this had limited bloatwsre and more targeted at better h/w My lappy is 8gb RAM , decent GEforce , quad core i7, 7200 WD DMA HDD... And so on. I don't get it. But then again why...

Merlin - USB3 I/O must slower than DDWRT

Sorry, YES, laptop 100/1000 Ext4 was slower than Ext2 slower than FAT32 what are the "many settings" you refer to. I dont see any for the USB interface other than Disabling interference on 2.4GHz band which doesnt change anything. Tomato not stable on AC56U. Merlin is doing a great job, I...

    AC56U cannot overlock

already bricked twice, well almost... firmware couldnt be uploaded after a crash and bootloop had to hard reset and piss around with ssh so not a complete brick now

Merlin - USB3 I/O must slower than DDWRT

Mate, what "environment" are you talking about - I'm refering to a wired connection using CAT6 albeit from a 10/100 (laptop) to 100/1000 (AC56U). No other clients connected, radios turned off, services shut down, verybasic stuff Merlin. Mate, there is something wrong with your USB stack -...

simple way to measure throughput - linux

Merlin, if I could video the stats I would - 70MB read from the USB - period. I'm a s/w engineer although 1553/3910 optical bus and ADA language; not linux/C so no experience in programming TCP/IP,C,or clib and ANSI C libraries. But I do know the theoretics around throughput and know how to use...

simple way to measure throughput - linux

Ive turned off DLNA and SAMBA - too slow. FTP xfer is much faster. Something isnt right though because I'm right next to the router and have a link speed of 300mpbs (max) so even at half that, 150mbps, I should be getting around 17MBps to the USB drive , but I get around 9MBps. Ridiculous...

Merlin - USB3 I/O must slower than DDWRT

So I have tried Merlin .40 Merlin .41-beta1 Asus -4561 Same laptop with same card and no other clients, same setup each time. The DDWRT f/w supports wired I/O to USB3 around 40MBps Merlin f/w (and Asus) is more like 23MBps Wireless writes however are slower on DDWRT (5MBps) to...

    poor USB performance with .40

thanks guys. I shall await the USB 802.11ac adapters and a AC66U , then perform some more "real world" testing

    poor USB performance with .40

    Got my numbers wrong... - Western Digital Elements USB3(3Gbps) 500GB HDD in FAT32 mode - AC56U loaded with Merlin's .40 f/w. USB drive connected to USB3 port. 5GHz 80MHZ bandwidth. 2.4GHz 40MHz bandwidth. - Sony Vaio VPCF11S1E with a decent broadcom 802.11n 2x2 with a link of 300mbps MSC15, 12...
