    RT-AC3200 2.4GHz too new ?!

They have recently done very good work on the AC87, so I would have some confidence - but it is 9 months after release. They do seem to have a real commitment to getting things right in the end. On the other hand, only you know how long you are prepared to wait! We could wish all this would...

    RT-AC3200 2.4GHz too new ?!

I don't mean to make excuses for them, but this is a pretty cutting edge router with a new chipset. Regardless of what Asus (probably inadequately informed 1st line) support say, the problem will probably be "magically" fixed with a future firmware release, updating the wireless driver. In...

    Setting Asus Router to "Repeater"?

That's right. And give the AP a static IP. I normally set the AP's IP to x.x.x.2 and then set the DHCP server on the main router to issue addresses from x.x.x.3 and up. The big advantage of this is all the "backhaul" traffic from one router to the other goes over your wiring. With a wireless...

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

So you have a completely different problem to tl2k2. Also, to be doubly clear, when you say "No Internet" do you mean no WAN, but the device can access the LAN normally, or are you connected to wifi, but cannot access anything, LAN or WAN. I don't have a magic answer either way, but I ask...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

By the way, you may not have noticed RMerlin .53 is now out, that includes everything in 4950 and a bit besides. Nothing that will improve or worsen this specific issue though. .52_2 is fine for that.

What is the best way to extend the Asus RT-AC87U?

Of course, any purpose built "extender" is "an AP with repeater mode", but even the Asus RP-AC52 uses a different chipset to those in the AC87.

What is the best way to extend the Asus RT-AC87U?

If you are going some distance/through walls the raw speed is unlikely to be any better than good Powerline (although that can be somewhat dependent on the situation). You also have the performance implications of cluttering up the airwaves with your wireless bridge traffic. Lastly bridges often...

What is the best way to extend the Asus RT-AC87U?

Extending via an Access Point wired by Ethernet is always the best option, by some way. I have two AC87s, the second is an AP wired into the AC87 router. If that is impossible for some reason try Powerline - one Powerline adapter wired into your router, the other into an Access Point. Only if...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

Hey Hagler, I also run 2 AC87s - one as router, one as AP and the good news is the problem you describe (which I also experienced) was fixed with Asus firmware 4608 that is also the basis for RMerlin 378.52. My 2, actually running Asus 378.4950, not RMerlin, but there isn't a big difference...

    AC87U disconnection on 2.4ghz.

My guess is it's not really a bug in either, but a compatibility issue between the 2 chipsets. They would probably work fine paired with another of the same type and unless they claim compatibility with a list of other devices that's probably all they have to do. For interest, you could try...

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

Yep, I too suspect these are client side disconnects, but still it would be good to be clear about what they are seeing. I also wonder if there are tools for Mac and Android that, like Intel's tools for Windows, tell you exactly who disconnected and, if it's the client, why. That would be useful.

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

What do you guys mean by "drop"? A momentary disconnect? You need to rest wifi on the device to get it to work again, but then all is OK? 5Ghz wifi disappears for all devices until router reboot? Other?

    AC87U disconnection on 2.4ghz.

As I understand it all bridges (WDS or client-mode) are somewhat fudged and while any device may work as a regular client, that's not necessarily true for bridges, which generally are more reliable between the same chipset. Forgive me, because I don't have an N66U and it looks like the...

ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

Still no probs with iPad 2, iPad Mini, iPad Mini 2, iPad Air 2, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 6 (or other devices inc 2 x Chromecast and an Intel Ac7260 laptop), with 5Ghz BF off. In fact they couldn't really be working better. Considering they have a router and AP (same SSID) each with 2.4...

    AC87U disconnection on 2.4ghz.

I assumed noise was variable and SNR/noise were being calculated/smoothed differently. If noise actually varies between -100dbm and -40dbm and, maybe, the router displays the worst noise figure it sees over a time period, that would explain the SNR. But we are guessing! Maybe log a good old...

    update AC87U

Sorry, can't help. Don't have PS4. I do have Adaptive QoS on, but can't say for sure that it helps! I just trust it does :). Games should be high priority by default using Adaptive. You could also manually set PS4 to high priority if you wanted. Others may have better, more specific advice.

    update AC87U

I would beware of that in this situation. I had very od trouble after the 4608 update that may have been due to using John's tool. I'm not sure it didn't restore something that should have changed.

    update AC87U

You need to reset on "big" updates, that include when wireless radio firmware is changed. This happened between 4608 an 4950, so needed for 4608-5134 too. Otherwise, you can try to just reboot, but do a reset if you have weird problems after.

    update AC87U

But Cazzoi, you said you were on 4608. That is why I said you needed a hard reset.
