Will a new modem increase my network speed?

200-300 Mbps I think was more like an R7000 or AC68U with the old 1 GHz Cortex A9 CPUs. The R7800 could hit around ~700 Mbps in OpenWRT if I recall correctly and newer Netgear / Asus models I would assume may also pull off 600-700 Mbps+ without NAT acceleration

Improve House Wifi / Keep Existing Router?

Yeah putting aside paper specs and benchmarks all of which make things look drastic improvements, in the end it matters if it’s really improving your real world usage and your use case otherwise it may be wasted money. I learned this lesson when I very recently gave my aunt and uncle a set of...

    DIY routers and APs

You try ESXI or Proxmox and have have TrueNAS & whatever firewall distro both running as containers. It should work fine.

    News NETGEAR Announces 6E Orbi

In regards to power draw, just look at the average and max power draw on an Intel X710-T2L at 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 Gbps modes for example. (Granted Intel chipsets are pricy & unlikely to enter consumer models). Jumping from 1 to 2.5 Gbps is around a 25% increase in power draw, 2.5-5 Gbps modes are...

    Netgear Router Hidden Pages

Unfortunately latest few firmwares don’t show it in the debug page maybe hidden and can be uncovered via Chrome/Safari page inspection? Other option is to use a much older firmware if really needed for something like changing region.

What’s the next router to consider?

GHz isn’t always the best measure of performance. If purely going by the CPU cores, the 4 ARM Cortex A15 cores in the R9000 even at 1.7 GHz are actually probably still a little more powerful than the 2.2 GHz Cortex A53 cores in the RAX120. The A72 is actually the a high performance core...

An Asus Wifi 6E question no Tech outlet will answer

If your phones support HT160 they should connect at 2.4 Gbps link rate when signal conditions are amenable to it…. If they can on 6Ghz they should on 5Ghz as well, if anything higher chance of those phones sustaining the higher link rates on 5 GHz as 6Ghz on current routers is relatively weaker...

    QOS on 1gbps network speeds

QoS on gig makes sense if it’s aysmetrical. Like 1.4 Gbps down and 40-50 Mbps Up like I get on Comcast. I use it because at times I do saturate the upload side.

Advice AX11000 vs AXE1100 what to buy

Well the other thing is if you are on a budget or not, if money is no option and you want the latest greatest/are an enthusiast, there is definitely nothing wrong with that either. But most of the replies from L&LD and others were from a practical standpoint. I take it you are on Comcast? then...

Advice AX11000 vs AXE1100 what to buy

I've also generally said the same as L&LD above in regards to dual 5Ghz on a router. Unless you have a lot of Wifi LAN work going on, a tri-band may not help for most people. When talking about spreading the load for multiple devices, that argument really only make sense if ones internet...

Tutorial Installing a AX210 Windows 10 Driver that works

I got 22.50.1.1 a few days back, still won’t let me use WPA3 on 6 Ghz and I still needed the Regedit.

    Which VPN?

ExpressVPN as far as I know always has a good reputation…privacy/tracking policy wise in terms of expectations meeting reality. So not sure what you mean by “poor reputation” unless you have specific examples. As a specific example I know PureVPN did help authorities catch a cyber criminal, so...

    Which VPN?

I’ve tried Nord, PIA (via a friend) and ExpressVPN. Of the three ExpressVPN is the most expensive ($100 a year) but also the fastest in my experience with some severs hitting over 250-300 Mbps and decent global server coverage. Nord for me was sometimes pretty slow but I think they have more...

Tutorial Installing a AX210 Windows 10 Driver that works

Try this driver from Intel’s site, not sure it made it to 5.11 before release. Last I used Linux for testing it was still 5.10 and had the same issue you describe. Unlike 5.11 which supports the AX210 I had to manually install the driver to even get it to detect the card. I think the driver...

News Linksys Starts Shipping 6E Mesh System, Announces $500 6E Router

I think you meant to use Mhz rather than Mbps for bandwidth though :).

    Discord Server

Not sure Discord would be useful for SNB, forums seem to be the best medium for it, however the Discord is seriously more than just 8 year olds and gaming, I don't get the hate lol.... My BlackBox Stocks subscripition for example uses it for alerts/discussions and have seen many other non-gaming...

    ASUS AC86U SpeedTest

I had that happen at times on a my Netgear CAX80 Modem/Router with the Ookla page, probably just an app issue on the router. I would just ignore it, as clients have no issues.

    Considering QNAP TVS-472XT - a few questions

Yeah you can do teaming, it will double your bandwidth but note that a single target transfer between PC and NAS would still be limited to speed of 1 port. Teaming is more useful when having multiple connections/transfers going on in parallel.

    Considering QNAP TVS-472XT - a few questions

If you want to go the router/switch route, just connect your router’s 2.5 Gbe port to the switch along with your NAS and PC (also to the switch), simple as that. Also note that in this case any transfers between PC and NAS would go directly via the switch. The router and it’s 2.5 Gbe port would...
