    Large house Mesh system

What I did at my old house. I use a closet high shelf for modem router and switch. I drilled a hole into the attic large enough to push a patch cable through. Then I drilled a hole in the ceiling of the room where I wanted an AP. I attached the AP's mount to the ceiling and plugged in the...

Mesh system for large home, outdoor patio, and detached shop

I ran some CAT5e cable through some black plastic pipe to my neighbor's house so we could play games. It lasted for years until we moved. You just have to remember not to dig through it once it is in the ground.

Mediatek router with Apple Myth of Fact

I have Cisco 150ax wireless APs and I have no issues with Apple devices. My wife is all Apple and I have an Apple iPhone.

    Non wireless router?

The WAN should be for the aggerate of the internet network load not a test.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

If I did not use QUAD9, I would Cisco's umbrella OpenDNS.

    Non wireless router?

Pfsense for a router with multiple wireless Aps. You can use a 2.5 Intel NIC if you want but 10 gig is what I think works well. Three or four 1 gig APs can easily max out a 2.5 gig WAN connection. I had some 2.5 gig Cisco wireless APs at home. I cannot really see a difference in 1 and 2.5...

Plex Pass though to IOT Network

If you have ACLs in firewall rules with the new software you should be able to do it. Otherwise, you can use a layer 3 switch with ACLs. I do it on my Cisco layer3 switch with ACLs. I share a printer.

WinFi Lite - new Wifi analyzer tool for Windows

I downloaded it. It just says loading loading loading. Does it work on the latest Windows 11?

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

Why not use QUAD9 and let it do domain management? It should stay current on the bad domains out there. QUAD9 works great for me.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

A lot of people complained about the 1 network as it was used in some of the big equipment back then. By now it can't be a problem because it was given to the Chinese.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

I want to say that is the way I learned using Cisco firewalls 35 years ago. But a lot of time has passed since then and I am not up on current stuff.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

Go to know. That makes sense as once you have a connection then you are allowed a return packet. That is the way NAT works. So, a firewall rule will not override a NAT connection. Since there is an open connection the firewall rules don't come into play.

Please help explaining pros-cons of Bridge mode vs DMZ of second router

I think your term for layer 3 bridging is really routing unless you are passing all data across both networks at the same time. Bridging at layer 2 does not consider IP addresses. Usually bridging is a slow process at layer 3. That is why layer 3 switches came about. It could be I don't...

Enabling link aggregation with Ubiquiti Edgeswitch

Maybe spanning tree support is not working in the router. It is the first thing I look at when I have a switch storm.

Is this a smart and reasonable layout for a home network?

I would put wall mounts where you are going to put switches and ceiling mounts where you are going to put wireless APs.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

So, I had this discussion on Pfsense forums recently about this. You can read the whole discussion if you want. I just picked a country at random. I am playing with the idea of Pfblocker but I have to fully understand how it works...

Please explain multiple APs, mesh, roaming, handoff, and broadcast frequencies

Yes. Roaming is not related to mesh. Wire or wireless is layer 1. My guess is if you use Cisco wireless "mesh" then you will still have roaming. I have not tested it. There are properties that go along with wire or wireless. One of them is wire is run out of a switch. Wireless allows...

Can't access 192.168.100.1 when connected through my ASUS AX Router

Well look at your firewall rules. It could also be as stated above if your LAN network includes 192.168.100.1 as part of the LAN network the router will not pass it as it thinks it is inside the LAN. 192.168.100.1 needs to be classified as an unknown IP address so the router will pass it out...
