    Help with openvpn client setup

the MTU difference won't keep you from connecting. can you paste some logs so that we can see what's happening while it tries to connect?

The VPN Client, can't get it to work

because you have the static key I think you need to change extra HMAC authorization to outgoing instead of disabled.

The VPN Client, can't get it to work

the one log capture you have shows it's all good but I guess it just waits there doing nothing more? you should probably change switch to "verb 4" or "verb 5" for debugging.

How to block all internet if vpn drops via firewall-start. script

I have fiber that requires pppoe over vlan 3265. Every time my WAN resets while openvpn client is running everything is blocked anyway, I assume from the routing table openvpn setup and because my new WAN IP is different.

openvpn: ciphers and numbers of cores used

I think you are implying that were I to download without VPN I'd still see some CPU usage from "actual traffic routing", on the order of 10-15%. That just isn't the case. If I download without VPN the CPU usage is on the order of 0-2%.

openvpn: ciphers and numbers of cores used

This situation has changed into something more interesting perhaps. I have the two VPN providers mentioned above and until a few days ago kept the config for PIA in client 1 and Air in client 2. Then I began testing some other VPN providers so the use of openvpn clients in my router got...

    Shellshock BASH bug and RT-N66U

you know what I get when I assume....? Yeah, the update just came out, because I checked yesterday, so I assumed it would fix this. But, I just tested and I still get busted stuff great. :-/

    Shellshock BASH bug and RT-N66U

just ran ipkg update and ipkg upgrade and indeed there is now an update for bash. excellent. :) "Upgrading bash on /opt/ from 3.2.49-1 to 3.2.52-1..."

    Shellshock BASH bug and RT-N66U

I've installed optware then bash on my ac68 when I substitute /opt/bin/bash into the proper place in the test command two lines are returned, busted stuff or vulnerable this is a test So, I guess I've got a problem?

    L2TP Preshared Key

I know this is fairly old and you may not see it, but I've been wondering the same thing. Truth is, I can connect to a VPN provider via L2TP without inputting the PSK (shared secret). I keep wondering if I'm really secure without it. I just tested the nvram request you mentioned above and...

Some issues with PPTP/L2TP Client UI

I've been wondering the same thing about L2TP all this time. I'm actually able to connect to VPN providers via the L2TP client in merlin fw WITHOUT putting in the PSK (shared secret) anywhere. It makes me wonder if I'm really connecting with an L2TP/IPsec connection or not. Anybody know?

OpenVPN Client Settings for Mullvad VPN?

https://www.mullvad.net/en/setup/ddwrt/ does that not have enough info? down at the very bottom they say you need to log in and download the crt and key files. you'll have to copy and paste the data from those files into the proper section in your openvpn client setup.

    VPN connection fools IPtraffic monitoring?

I'd like to keep stats of individual IP traffic but I see that when connected to a VPN service with either the L2TP or openvpn client the IP monitoring doesn't work. Is there a workaround anybody knows of? Thanks.

    Asus, Merlin & Astrill VPN

if it's in access point mode then it's not performing DHCP. And since it's a different subnet than your DHCP serving router you'll have to manually enter static IP on your computer in the proper subnet. At least that's my guess on what happened there.

openvpn: ciphers and numbers of cores used

Using the new firmware that charts CPU usage of both cores I note for the first time that the openvpn client uses 1 or both cores depending on the cipher used. I use both private internet access and AirVPN. PIA uses BF-CBC while AirVPN uses AES-256-CBC. When connected to PIA only 1 core...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.44 Beta 1 is out

just pulled the source with the intent being compiling with BWDPI disabled and IPSEC enabled. However, I see that the target.mak in src-rt-6.x.4708 already has BWDPI=n and IPSEC=n. am I in the wrong source directory or is the new BWDPI not enabled in your released builds yet? If I want to...

    802.1q on wan possible?

your last paragraph is correct as far as I know. my ISP requires pppoe VLAN3265 so I just set the internet VID to 3265 and input the proper settings into the WAN section and it works. I don't have IPTV so I don't know for sure but it sounds plausible.

    RT-AC66U and IPVanish VPN client

yeah, the L2TP/ipsec implementation in this firmware rocks. super fast. have you tried anything in your openvpn config to fix MTU problems? Of course, I don't think the AC66 is able to really do openvpn that fast due to CPU constraints.

    RT-AC66U and IPVanish VPN client

In the custom config of openvpn set your verbosity high for debug. "verb 4" maybe "verb 5" and you might get some indication as to why you're being disconnected. That said, I wouldn't trust either of those VPN providers. I can recommend PIA (private internet access) and AirVPN.

    compiling firmware for ipsec

Have seen the info about ipsec being incompatible with some new things and that we'd have to compile our own to return kernel support for ipsec. Please give me a short summary of what it would take to compile my own firmware that includes ipsec. I have no linux box currently and have never...
