Time for a router upgrade (to AC-86U)....

But wouldn't the extra streams still be useful ... with multiple single stream clients?

AC86U: Comments setting up Traditional QoS

My guess? High priority does it's thing until its queue is empty then the next priority down gets to unload. If "High" was set to 100% it is "possible" the next one down would never get a turn. So setting each for something less than 100% gives the next guy down some chance.

Time for a router upgrade (to AC-86U)....

When I went from an N66U to an AC86U I was pleasantly surprised with a noticeable improvement in range/performance. If the N66U is fine then the AC86U should be "finer". If you didn't need an AP before you shouldn't need one now. I was lazy so I just kept mine for a backup, although, as an AP...

Issues with latest Blue Cave firmware?

I just wanted to thank you for this. I "almost" updated, if it wasn't for your post I would have. I suspect you saved me from hours of frustration? I also like my Blue Cave, it just works. Even better my wife likes its looks (it's not some creepy space alien looking thing with horns and...

    Ethernet Cable Not Detected

Lucky for me I've a great (read affordable!) computer repair shop just down the street. In lieu of that WiFi or a USB to Ethernet dongle? EDIT: Dummy me. I missed the part where you said it worked when connected to ISP equipment. Perhaps set the NIC to fixed 100 or something rather than...

Asus Blue Cave (AC2600) 2.4GHz wifi crash

Well I'll be darned, I wasn't even close. Glad things are workin' (Do me a favor? Look at what factory reset set wireless 2.4 to, e.g., control channel, bandwidth?)

Asus Blue Cave (AC2600) 2.4GHz wifi crash

Bluetooth rotates through the 2.4 GHz frequencies. You might just get plain lucky using one channel versus another. You might even try setting the router to "auto"? (It'll either "help" or ... make it even worse : -) Normally a smart bulb is "single shot"; set it and leave it. You're using...

Asus Blue Cave (AC2600) 2.4GHz wifi crash

That would have been my guess. (I don't know anything about smart bulbs but I assume they use bluetooth?) Did you try all three (1, 6 & 11) channels? How far is your toy from your router? (Can you separate them even more?) (I saw your review on the Phillips site ; -)

    Best Mesh Addition

OK. You've heard from some of the experts. I'm a novice. I'm also cheap and ... lazy. You suggest you're mostly happy. Even with an "Extender" that you have to reboot occasionally. You also mention that you have existing cabling. And you imply WiFi coverage is adequate. Maybe just...

    Wireless Extender options

I don't know what you just said? So you are getting coverage at the far ends ... just not very good. It's just possible, not guaranteed, but possible, that a "more better" router will do the job. Asus 86U or Netgear R7800 maybe? (I like Asus, I like their built-in traffic monitor.) As...

    Is this normal?

Let's talk about "pinch points". PC X is talking to PC Y over Gigabit and, lucky you, you are actually seeing Gigabit. Now here you're less than clear. If PC X is also talking to the WAN, well, he's only a single Gigabit pipe. PC X cannot talk with two entities each at a full Gigabit as that...

    New Router Recommendation

And that ... is a great explanation as to why my problem likely disappeared!

    New Router Recommendation

Modem? Possibly. The modem my ISP provided is supposedly part of a class action lawsuit which reads, in part: Every couple of seconds or so, a high-priority maintenance task runs and it winds up momentarily hogging the processor, causing latency to increase by at least 200ms and, over time...

    The Uptime Contest

Thanks for the reminder guys, where I live I had come to think of it as, "How many days since our last power outage."

    New Router Recommendation

I find it intriguing that "dropped calls" wasn't on your list of problems? You may well be onto something. If you can find the actual IP address of some of these services you could check them out with ping, tracert and/or ping plotter. But all those apps are running over WiFi? I'm left...

Enable RDP - trying to get incoming IP address

How true! Years ago I was cleaning out the basement and found an old Howdy Doody puppet. I brought him into work and set him on a far corner of my desk. When I was working through a (work related) problem I would sometimes take a timeout and explain my dilemma to Howdy. Often, in the middle...

Enable RDP - trying to get incoming IP address

I'm probably way off base here. When you're home you can VPN to work. When you're at work you can RDP to your favorite home computer. But now you're at a 3rd site? You can VPN to work but while you're "virtually" at work you cannot RDP to your special computer at home? If you don't need the...

    New Router Recommendation

I like that you are trying to understand the problem before you just throw money at it. Are any of your wired devices showing "lagginess" or is it just your wireless devices? Take a look at your builtin Asus traffic monitors. Does the "Internet view" suggest that 150 x 15 ain't enough...

    Simple (fundamental) Performance Question

On the off chance I actually understood the question; (Samba) SMB File Servers have gone through some number of updates. Routers typically support the older version (smaller footprint) but Windows 10 has moved on. I don't remember the details but you might be able to re-enable Windows support...
