Then set it to Wireless router, instead of Access Point.

My two cents: because AsusWRT only allows one IP logged in to the router. So, log off in all other places, and only then you're allowed to log in to the router. If you have a proxy, the IP of your device and the IP of the proxy could be different. You could log in either from your device or...

You have posted in the wrong section. John's fork has nothing to do with AC5300.

Disagree, I use OpenDNS (Cisco) because for me the extra security is more relevant than the loss of privacy. Besides, sometimes I read the logs myself, they're useful. The DNS data are not very informative: my connection is used by multiple persons, and there is no way for OpenDNS to know who...

Well, yes, if you do torrents, set really low values. Besides, you may change the amount of connections to 300000, that won't harm.

Just type the values shown in yellow and press Apply (but 2400 could be too large, too, try 300 or 600). See what disables hardware acceleration at http://www.snbforums.com/threads/hw-acceleration-on-rt-n66u.9888/

Disable QoS and everything that disables hardware acceleration and reboot your router. Make sure hardware acceleration gets reported as enabled. Because you do torrents, timeouts have to be set really small.

About hard disk failures: I know three programs for handling that: - SpinRite (unstable with large partitions); - HDD Regenerator (good but slow); - Vivard (stable, fast and freeware). Vivard can be downloaded here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/ViVARD.shtml or here...

    WTR-DD Firmware with Netgear R7000

To cut a long story short, DD-WRT has its own wiki (for flashing follow the wiki) and its own web forum. DD-WRT is called a Cadillac, not a Porsche, because speed is not its main concern (divide processor speed in MHz by 4.5 and you get expected maximal DD-WRT download speed in Mbps). Stick...

RT-AC87U, WPS is disabled, but it looks like not on 5 Ghz

Use bully or reaver in order to confirm that it's really disabled.

JFFS is a file system in flash memory meant to store small files (like scripts and configuration files). If you don't know what it is, you probably don't use it.

Beta 17BA feedback: in certain conditions (lots of Livedrive deletions from one computer), DNSMasq stops responding. Downgraded to 16E1 and the problem is no longer there.

500 kbps * 20 = 10 Mbps. Do you have a real download speed of 20 Mbps or just an "up to 20 Mbps"? This is germane in ADSL land, wherein the farther you are from the distribution point (telephone central office), the slower the real speed is.

In general, you may use TOR or VPN in order to redirect your traffic, but you can never really hide your IP. Further, TOR is not friendly for torrents, or torrents are not friendly for TOR. What you may indeed get is a GRC Shields Up Perfect Stealth status.
