    Netgear has a beta firmware (R7500) risolving the battery drain and connection issues. Users review seems so far very positive. Probably ASUS is still testing in-house with the new Quantenna SDK. Just wild guess.

    No packet loss whatsoever here pinging 192.168.1.1. Sounds like an issue with the network card driver? Have you tried another system on the same LAN not using the same hardware?

    If you have 2FA activated on gmail you certainly need an app password to have gmail working with third party mail related applications. Otherwise you just need gmail set to accept POP connections.

    FYI, it is already the second time the router becomes totally unresponsive and need to be manually turned OFF/ON. See enclosed the router few logs before the problem and then logs up to when it is rebooted and again fully functional.

    Here: 1. Yes, works very well and I would personally recommend it 2. There is no any noticeable degradation P.S. No issue with Webroot (WSA) when I was using it.

    Just reboot the router and if not enough reset to factory default before upgrading.

    VPN support explained it as an issue of the ISP not allowing using their DNS for VPN rather than a router problem. But I cannot judge if this is a sound technical explanation.

    You mean OpenVPN "Client" + using .ovpn files? If positive, then yes. At least I have to do so here to be able to effectively use the VPN connection.

    You put them once... Leave them or turn ON/OFF. Not a major issue here. As soon as Merlin will update the firmware I will switch. For the moment I prefer to be on this latest firmware.

    My experience on 0day malicious sites is that TM is blocking far more sites than OpenDNS. Your test site is not really a good reference to test TM effectiveness as TM simply do not recognise wicar.org as a malware spreading site. You have to try with real ones such the malc0de database or...

    I am glad to hear it works well for you too! :) The protection layer provided is not far from those expensive solutions (hardware/software) normally present only in enterprise environments. See also a discussion here...

    For your information and for other users facing the same problem; I have been troubleshooting the issue with ASUS support and the solution was to set in the router a different DNS than my ISP (e.g. OpenDNS). Now the connection works flawlessly. Note: I am testing this with the official 9177...
