I got a Fortigate-60 Free... is this worth it?

Especially when you can build a pfSense box and run Snort/Suricata/pfblocker free of charge.

    First time my router quit(smoked)

It means you are gonna get another unit in the mail. Cross your fingers its a brand new unit instead of a refurbish.

    Post-install Questions: DIR-655 as a Access point

Yeah, a router can be ran in switch mode, but that sacrifices one LAN port for connecting it to the main router. If you need more ports, I would recommend an actual switch that has more ports.

True or False: Expensive routers will improve your ISP speed

You don't need the absolute top of the line router costing $300USD or more, regardless of what marketing materials you read telling you that you do. A slow router will not be able to handle a fast connection, and a fast router will be over kill for a slow connection. However, a fast router...

The script can be ran continuously without requiring you to execute the command. The beauty of having a router that runs a lite version of linux.

It might have been given a different address.

High Price Performance Router - Big $$$

For $700, you can probably build a pfSense box that has better functionality.

    Help to Solve a mistery

When you installed the other two routers, did you power cycle the PC and CNC machine after the router came back up? This action would clear DHCP address assignments that were handed out to the PC and CNC machine, forcing them to get a new address.

Hopefully you are also running on a UPS so that if it does get to up in flames, it doesn't take down your house.

New vulnerability on nearly all RT routers

    Downloads disconnect my internet

How large of a DL is it? What ISP do you use? Might be they are kicking you off for exceeding your data cap? Or you are doing something they deem illegal and to mitigate their damages, they disconnect you.

    Asus RTN-66U settings help

There isn't much that can be done in regards to both issues. DNS performance can be tweaked, but how much more performance you can get out of the RT-N66R would be marginal at best. AsusWRT-Merlin runs a version of DNSMASQ that was intended to be light, since it is running on an embedded SoC...

Has anyone ever used RTS/CTS and has it helped ?

RTS/CTS is only useful for environments where the wireless space is crowded. These two won't help you if you already have problems not related to that.

    Odd behaviour with my AC56U...

Post the system log. That usually contains everything that happens to the router and what it does.

    Looking into replacing my n66u.

I'm pretty sure the N66 can route up to almost 1G fibre speeds.

    QoS not following priorities?

They both do the same thing. QoS throttles traffic by delaying the transmission of ACK packets. If the server doesn't receive an ACK packet, it will stop sending data until the client acknowledges their receipt. There is a hard limit on how long QoS can wait. If QoS waits too long, the server...

    QOS Settings

QoS is only one part of the problem. Bandwidth requirements for HD streams, especially 1080p, are high. If you have more than a single HD stream, and are on a slower connection, you will always have problems. There is only one way around this, and it is to upgrade your connection speed.

    QoS not following priorities?

I've never had to use QoS because I have a high speed cable connection (57/11). If you also have a high speed connection, its better to use the torrent client to throttle its own speed. I'm not sure if it would work, but try having the lowest priority filters at the top.
