    Do you have QoS enabled? Switching those numbers around would gimp your speed.

    For me, the 5ghz channel didn't work properly when using the sdk6 firmwares. Only sdk5 firmwares were trouble-free for me.

    If you are coming to Asuswrt-Merlin from Tomato, I'd recommend resetting and manually entering all config data.

    Have you tried logging in from telnet to see if you can do it over telnet?

    Not adviseable to flash over wifi especially if your current firmware is much older due to the fact that you have to do a factory reset.

    Search for lostrealm + merlin. Then check out the documentation for writing custom scripts. Not sure which script that would go in but that's where you should start looking.

    Would definitely flash to Merlin's 32 firmware. That firmware is IMHO the most stable with the fewest bugs.

    Do you think your router is being hacked or your computer is being hacked. I would think that the settings from the administration - system settings page would protect your router because it would be unreachable from the net.

    Recommend router with QoS Support

    I would get the RT-N16. Since Asus put out Asuswrt and Merlin made some bug fixes to it and thus putting out his own version, the RTs have become more powerful. But the RT-N16 is pretty long in the tooth. Spend some more money and get a newer RT and be future proof.

    Are you going to be serving to the whole Internet or just your LAN? I would get a router that is capable of link aggregation and use the combined bandwidth. That or dump the slower connection.
