Allow only Home Smart Devices on Access Point?

Hey thanks for the insight. The only way I could figure out a guest SSID setup is via using a captive portal - which sounds a little too clunky to do smart devices on. IP isolation appears would kill my multi-room music capabilities on my Amazon Echo's. Then today I stumbled on this how-to...

Any experience with the TP Link EAP225 V3 AP?

I've been all over this ever since THiggin's article came out & I was looking for a solution to bring a stronger signal to my front Ring doorbell cam. Have 2 TPL AP's now linked to my hacked TMO 1900/Asus 68U for full property coverage & speeds at those points close to marketed speeds (300...

2x2 AC Access Point Roundup - Part 2

Love the followup on real world deployment. Thanks JS & TH! Based on this 2 part article on AP's I was able to incorporate my first AP upstairs into my home network seamlessly- EAP225. So then I went further last night & added another AP - the outdoor version of the EAP225 - for my garage...

Allow only Home Smart Devices on Access Point?

I recently set up a TP-Link EAP225_v3 access point for the upstairs of my house to provide better coverage to my growing number of smart home WiFi light switches, doorbells, Amazon Echo's & robo vac. Some of these smart home devices can only use the 2.4GHz band while others can use 5GHz also...

Router WiFi connections seem maxed out, what to do?

Sounds like Smart Connect is a well known big elephant implementation on the 3200: https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-howto/32653-asus-rt-ac3200-smart-connect-the-missing-manual

Keep RT-AC68U or Upgrade to RT-AC86U?

I think I am below the 32 best practice guidance for each (band?) radio unless -by radio - you mean per router?

Keep RT-AC68U or Upgrade to RT-AC86U?

Thanks for that link - actually read it prior to making this thread. Because I had some more specific questions. Just to clarify - I would NOT be replacing the AP just the 68U. The AP is Cat6 through a switch back to the 68U. If anything, the AP should be a good fallback for future expansion.

Keep RT-AC68U or Upgrade to RT-AC86U?

As my ever expanding WiFi device laden home gets more clients added to its router - I was wondering if I needed to update my almost 4 year old 68U (really a TMO AC1900 with RMerlin)? Have not seen any performance issues yet on the 68U but we're up to 36 clients now as displayed in the ASUS...

ASUS RT-AC86U Dual Band AC2900 Wireless Router Reviewed

I think this is confirmed by the article: Since both support Broadcom's non-standard 1024 QAM, the inflated "class math" comes out to 750 Mbps for 2.4 GHz + 2167 Mbps for 5 GHz = 2917 Mbps, which ASUS has shockingly rounded down to 2900. ASUS has made a smart move by increasing the number of 5...

    2 Quick Questions

Good timing on this - as I will be spending my weekend migrating from an older merlin firmware 378.56 to the latest 384.4_2. Esp. with all the stuff about the hacks in that other thread. Bette safe than sorry on a total clean out of the old stuff for me.

Looking to potentially put an AP in my attic - would a regular one be able to handle the conditions?

Possibly been hacked. Need assistant from senior users.

Is this possible hack initiated only via the mobile app? Just wondering - since I only use the desktop PC Web UI to access router management functions.

Suggestions for running Cat5e/Cat6 to rooms in a new house

That's what we did 5 years ago - when we build our 1+1.5 story house with simlar sqft. We did 1 Cat6 (along with coax) to all the rooms where TV's were & Cat6 to the places we thought we would place IP cameras This served 2 original purposes at the time of planning: 1) MoCa for my Tivo to...

    Access point vs Upgrading Router

If the AC3200 was working prior to moving into your new home, then it appears it maybe a configuration & range issue. The value added way IMO but maybe more effective way would be to add an access point downstairs connected to that wired connection (ethernet backhaul). I say that because it...

Help re: Alexa's on router can't see Alexa's on AP?

Thanks sfx2000. Appreciate the feedback. one more question: I was under the impression that once I connected the AP to a switch that is connected to the LAN port on my router - things should have been automatic. Anyhow: So What I think may be happening is: 1) The AP was set for DHCP 2) I...

Can I set up the AP with a same SSID as one on the router? will that cause issues?

Help re: Alexa's on router can't see Alexa's on AP?

I just installed a TP-Link EAP225 V3 access point up in my loft that's ethernet connected back through a PoE switch & sourced to an Asus RT-68U router. This AP serves the upstairs while the router serves the downstairs wirelessly & of course everywhere else via the ethernet switch. There are...

TP-Link EAP225 Access Point Setup Questions

Reading there stuff - the TP-L folks really talked up their Controller software & talked down their web interface - so that's what my basis was. That said, it was confusing to get to the right regional website & download the Controller software but once there I am very glad I installed the...

    2x2 AC Access Point Roundup

I just intalled this 2 weeks ago. Really nice consumer grade stuff that borders on professional AP quality. Not that I know what the latter is like esp. since I usually am on the consumption side not the admin side. That said the Omada EAP Controller software is very nicely laid out & has...
