Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

@L&LD I had you pegged as a Belt & Braces type who would only deploy known stable versions across the board and to customer devices. I didn't imagine that you'd be so brave to roll out beta code to so many routers. Perhaps you have a huge test facility, but otherwise you've gone up in my...

Asus RT-AX88U ( After going back from asus merlin to stock firmware speed test option on Adaptive Qos missing even AiMesh missing)

The version you have installed is the older 384 generation of stock firmware - ASUS recently removed the only official 386 release (I assume it has a serious bug). The Merlin firmware you were running was also based on 386. There is no built in speed test on your older version, also you access...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

Another AX88U running smoothly for 12 hours now. No Trend Micro components, just Cake-QoS. Also 2 x AX56U nodes using ethernet backhaul running without issue.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta (stage 2) is now available

Thanks for your hard work @RMerlin Can you confirm your latest advice regarding firmware for AiMesh nodes. Are they better also running your releases, or stock firmware (in this case also based on the same GPL version)?

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

No, just perform a factory reset and allow it to reboot and stabilise for some minutes. Newer models need less time, but my RT-AC68U needed noticeably longer. Then go to your main router and try to add it in the AiMesh menus. Don't do any configuration on the RT-AC68U.

    Aimesh Test with RT-AX88U and RT-AX56U ( 386.1_beta3 )

I agree that running as APs with non-overlapping channels is better from a WiFi throughput perspective, but I miss the seamless roaming between mesh nodes that AiMesh gives and you are then dependant on the client to roam to a stronger signal. For example I have quite a few IoT devices...

    I keep losing connection AX88U

OK I thought the bug I mentioned was fixed before that version, but you could always try to turn off QoS for a while to see if the problem if related. Also if you can note the time of the disconnects and look in the System Log -> General Log for any messages listed when it happens we may be...

    Aimesh Test with RT-AX88U and RT-AX56U ( 386.1_beta3 )

I also prefer to use fixed channels as the norm, and thought I'd found the issue when I turned off Smart Connect, but whatever is going on in my setup (after multiple factory resets and manual reconfigurations) over time is causing a node radio to go off to another channel - quite often it lands...

    Aimesh Test with RT-AX88U and RT-AX56U ( 386.1_beta3 )

A question for those who have a stable setup, do you have fixed or automatic 5Ghz wifi channels? I swapped to my RT-AC68U as a node which didn't suffer from the same channel swapping I see on my RT-AX56Us. I also read that ACS (auto channel selection) doesn't run in manual channel mode so...

    I keep losing connection AX88U

A couple of thoughts.... Which version of firmware are you running? Are you using a dynamic IP connection to your modem and Adaptive QoS as there was a bug in some firmware version(s) where DHCP renewals with the modem which could cause this? There have also been other bugs which have been...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.1 Beta is now available

A simple suggestion - wait maybe 10 minutes after the factory reset of the AC68U. I have found it takes a while to be stable before I can add mine. If I try too quickly I don't find it, or when I try to add it the first attempt fails.

Manual WiFi channel assignment AiMesh Node

Monitoring the WiFi signals using inSSIDer shows that the nodes switch channels on occasion away from the configured settings. I’m using fixed control channels with 80Mhz of bandwidth in the DFS space as my neighbours have strong signals on channels 36-48. So for example I am set to channel...

    Aimesh Test with RT-AX88U and RT-AX56U ( 386.1_beta3 )

How are you getting on with this configuration - I have been running something similar for around 6 months but have never managed to get the WiFi to run well? I'm searching around the forums at the moment in search of some answers - for a many versions of firmware I had 2.4Ghz issues with my...

Manual WiFi channel assignment AiMesh Node

I'm searching around the forums at the moment also in search of some answers - my mesh nodes keep changing their 5Ghz WiFi channels even though I use manual assignment. This causes issues with clients disconnecting and suffering poor performance. I have RT-AX88U main router currently running...

    RT-AX88U poor 2.4ghz

The latest beta versions are better, but I've had a few quirks with clients loosing connections and radios going haywire. I haven't tried the latest released version but my own thoughts are that you'd be better waiting for the next incremental release if you're in no rush - I suspect that by...

    ASUS RT-AX88U Range Improvements...

I'm sure there are some badly designed WiFi client implementations coded by lazy developers who haven't read the IEEE 802.11 standards - that's inevitable, and those clients should head straight for the bin. What I see however, is that most of the discussions are usually around people trying to...

Smart plugs going offline - DHCP Discover / Offer loop

I've had similar with a variety of device types. I decided it's a bug and will wait for it to be fixed.
