TP-Link routers are being taken over by botnet

Well, I did suggest to upgrade the firmware, I didn't specify to what.

TP-Link routers are being taken over by botnet

Depending on the source, some 8-16k known TP-Link routers have been taken over by a botnet. Upgrade your firmware, if there is one, or throw away that old TP-Link router. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2024/11/microsoft-warns-of-8000-strong-botnet-used-in-password-spraying-attacks/

    10G/2.5G LAN Speed Issues

You sure love M$ propaganda. iPerf3 is perfectly fine as a quick throughput test, but yes, it's not an actual file transfer test, two different things. What iPerf3 is great at, is detecting potential issues, which is just what I did with my own router last week. I never said it was a good file...

    10G/2.5G LAN Speed Issues

iPerf works just fine, why are you spreading fud about it?

    10G/2.5G LAN Speed Issues

No issues with the iPerf3 implementation on my GT-AX6000, so I doubt it would be something weird with your router. [ ID] Interval Transfer Bitrate [ 5] 0.00-10.01 sec 2.75 GBytes 2.36 Gbits/sec sender [ 5] 0.00-10.01 sec 2.75 GBytes 2.36 Gbits/sec...

    10G/2.5G LAN Speed Issues

Try a factory reset, I had some weird issues with the 2.5 Gbps LAN port on my GT-AX6000 being stuck at sub Gigabit speed. Factory reset solved it.

    Release ASUS GT-AX6000 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_34797 (2024/10/01)

Just a heads up, I had issues with my LAN side 2.5 Gbps port not delivering, it did in fact not even reach full Gigabit speeds, which a hardware reset fixed. So there seems to be some kind of bug when doing a dirty firmware update.

Would an ASUS RT-AXE7800 be a good upgrade to from an ASUS RT-AC86U?

No, it's a poorly thought out model that only has a single 2.5 Gbps port and it's only 2x2 on the 6 GHz band, which makes it somewhat pointless imho. Keep in mind that if it's the 6 GHz band you want, it has shorter range than the 5 GHz band and it might not be able to penetrate your interior...

    10GB wired router options

How about this? It has three 10 Gbps ports and six 2.5 Gbps ports. https://www.qnap.com/en/product/qhora-322 Someone else in the forums got one. It also fits your budget.

Choice = good. More choice = better?

TP-Link even have different firmwares for different hardware revisions of their routers, so the same model name can have 5-6 different revisions, with the early ones having been discontinued five years ago and the models still on sale might've been discontinued three years ago and stopped...

    ASUS Unveils RT-BE88U WiFi 7 Dual-Band Router

Nice, didn't know Asus had added iPerf3 to their routers. This also made me discover that there's a but in the latest firmware on the GT-AX6000 where speeds from the router are limited to 1 Gbps.

    Release New official R7800 firmware

That doesn't sound familiar, but as mine died a couple of years ago, I can't say I remember all the features either. The most solid router I've ever owned.

    Release New official R7800 firmware

This is what more companies need to do though, no new features, just security updates. The R7800 is one of those routers that seems to have lasted forever, unless the hardware started to die as in my case.

    Wifi 7 NICs questions

Apple doesn't make their own WiFi chips afaik, at least in the past, they've used Broadcom based solutions. There were rumours about Apple stopping development of their own WiFi solutions. There are also rumours about Apple having their own solution sometime in 2025. Who knows what'll happen, so...

    Wifi 7 NICs questions

This is the WiFi chip in the Pixel 8 series. I would very much say it's supported and I doubt the 9 wouldn't support it if the 8 does. The 9 also supports MLO.

    Wifi 7 NICs questions

It's not though as all modern hardware supports it. Maybe try something that isn't crapple? There are at least three generations of WiFi chips from Intel that supports it, as per below. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/234444/intel-wifi-7-be202/specifications.html...

    Wifi 7 NICs questions

Amazingly, the world doesn't revolve around Apple and their "unique" solutions. Android, Windows and Linux handles MU-MIMO just fine.

    Wifi 7 NICs questions

Seems like the Qualcomm is the most likely candidate to work with Arm as someone has made a Linux driver for it. https://community.frame.work/t/guide-successful-wi-fi-7-802-11be-on-framework-13-amd-with-qualcomm-qcncm865-and-arch-linux/44723

    Wifi 7 NICs questions

No, at least not Arm. For consumers there are three different options today, Intel as mentioned, Qualcomm and MediaTek. Intel BE200/BE202 Qualcomm QCNCM865 (QCA FastConnect 7800/7900) MediaTek MT7927/MT7925 (Filogic something or the other, also re-branded by AMD) These are are 2x2 and support...

    GT-AX6000 Firmware 3.0.0.6_102_34797

Yeah, I tried searching, nothing came up and sorry for not knowing every single subsection of this forum. I will avoid posting things like this in the future, just like how I stopped posting news, since it's clearly unwanted content.
