    RT-AC5300 vs GT-AC5300

The GT actually has 1gb ram, not 512mb. Add the 64 bit 1.8ghz quadcore processor and it blows most routers out of the water for specs. However the stock fw appears to be buggy as hell. If vpn isn’t important go for a Linksys EA9500V2 which has the same hardware as the GT but without the bugs.

Advice X4S vs 86U for best range and speed

In that case buy the Netgear X4S (R7800) without a shadow of doubt.

Looking for very budget router advice

A refurbished Netgear R6300-v2 is available for $39.99 on Amazon which is far, far better than any of the routers you've listed. If you don't mind refurbished that is the one to go for at that price point...

    Linksys EA9500 V2 Specs

The likes of Amazon are still selling v1.1 and the V2 seems to be impossible to get hold of on ebay now. However they seem to be widely available in Asia (known as EA9500S - same as V2)...

DSL-AC68U: Wifi TX Rate drops to 5-7 MBit/s after FW Update

Why are people still using this router for DSL connectivity? IMHO it should be banned for sale at least in the UK, judging by the number of FTTC (vdsl2) lines it has messed up due to the notoriously unstable Mediatek DSL chipset it uses.

Thinking of buying a ASUS AC5300 Tri-Band WiFi Gaming Router is this a good choice for me?

The modem your ISP has given you *should* be compatible with any standalone router. The Synology is another excellent router, it has similar wifi performance to the Netgear R7800 but with better firmware.

Thinking of buying a ASUS AC5300 Tri-Band WiFi Gaming Router is this a good choice for me?

To keep your browsing activity hidden from the Gov't/FBI/NSA/GCHQ/MI5 and/or gain access to geographically restricted websites. If you have no intention of using VPN, I would go for the something like the Netgear R7800 which is pretty much the best router out there for wireless range. The R7800...

    ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 (Owners)

If you can live without advanced router functions such as VPN server/client features etc then go for the Linksys EA9500V2....which has basically the same hardware as the ROG GT-AC5300 but without the bugs.

    ASUS DSL-AC51

OP, I don't know which country you're located in, but in the UK, most Asus combined modem/routers (ie DSL variety) are well known for being very unstable and totally messing up your sync rates on xDSL lines, mainly due to the notorious Mediatek dsl chipset they use. Good example being the Asus...

    Linksys EA9500 V2 Specs

So how did the EA9500V2 stack up against the Netgear in your tests?

    Which wireless router?

Yep, the R8500 is still a decent router, I would keep it if you don't have any issues. If it aint't broke...

Why is the ac86u half the downlink of the netgear r7800?

Its widely accepted that the R7800 is THE router to get if you want the best wifi coverage/range, so yes, its better than the Asus RT-86U. However one of the reasons why the RT-AC86U is popular on these forums is that its one of fast routers for VPN speeds - AFAIK around 200 Mbps on Openvpn.

ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 Wireless-AC5300 Tri-Band Gaming Router Reviewed

Tim, Any chance you could do a review of the Linksys EA9500 V2 which has identical hardware to the GT-AC5300 and is an upgrade on the EA9500 V1? (just like the GT-AC5300 is over the RT-AC5300). Yes, the EA9500 V2 is difficult to get hold of out in the wild, but I'm sure Linksys can send you one...

Nvidia Android Box wants to use Wi-Fi to determine location

I also have the Nvidia Shield TV box (had it for a few years) and I find that by blocking Google DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) at router level, I can pretty much remove all Geo location restrictions on my Nvidia Shield - eg I can watch Netflix from almost any region in the world on my Nvidia Shield...

Simple Question, best long range Wireless router

I know the Asus RT-AC86U is everybody's favourite router on these forums but it is NOT the best router when it comes to wifi range and speeds. The likes of the Netgear R7800, Netgear R9000, Synology AC2600 et al blow the AC86U out of the water for wifi range. OP, you're better off going for...

    Linksys EA9500 V2 Specs

True, the back of V1 and V2 are different but an easy way to spot a V2 from purely the outer packaging is that it will say "1.8Ghz quad-core processor" on the box.

    Linksys EA9500 V2 Specs

Which Netgear model are you testing the EA9500V2 against? Compared to the Netgear R9000 (X10), i'm finding the 5ghz range on the EA9500V2 slightly better with the added bonus of an extra 5ghz radio. 2.4ghz range is more or less the same. On the downside the Linksys firmware isn't quite as...
