Getting Parallels or Fusion VM into QVS

Thanks. Are you happy with the performance of vitualized Windows on your 451? Have you tried to connect USB devices? I read that the current Virtualization Station only supports USB2.

Would you use a QNAP NAS in this environment?

QNAP has an SMTP server add in called Xmail. This would only be used for certain LAN clients to send email. I currently do this using Server 2003 built in SMTP server. SMTP server connections are restricted to LAN users only. No SMTP relaying allowed. No problem with spam rejection either...

Would you use a QNAP NAS in this environment?

I got that. Except there's a few other things I will rely solely on the NAS. SMTP server and Radius to name two. I need to determine backup plans for those. Radius should be an easy workaround, just repurpose the WiFi APs to WPA2 personal. SMTP may be more complicated. I have old school...

Would you use a QNAP NAS in this environment?

I understand and agree. My take on this is at the very least a 2nd NAS unit is necessary. In a better scenario, 3 units to do as you described. [emoji3] In my current setup I've got a Win Server and I keep it imaged using Image for Windows. I have a spare desktop PC I have successfully...

Would you use a QNAP NAS in this environment?

Seriously? Read the rest of what I wrote. I've got backup covered. Backup is not the subject of this thread. But thanks for your useful response.

Would you use a QNAP NAS in this environment?

Thanks but I'm not concerned about losing data. I'm well versed in backup and plan to keep the NAS config, all share data and the VMs both onsite and offsite.

    NAS recommendation

Have you tried the Seagate Constellation ES.3? These have been great for me. Enterprise class SATA3 disk just like the HGST Ultrastar.

    Still Confused About Switches

Does your router have Gigabit LAN ports? (many routers still use 10/100 ports) Does your router have enough Gigabit LAN ports for all your devices? If so, just connect all devices to the router.

Would you use a QNAP NAS in this environment?

thiggins I did some additional reading up on the QNAP products. I see where they support SAMBA4 to act as a basic domain controller. Kind of neat, but it doesn't include things like centralized management of the clients like I could get with Win Server. Server Essentials is inexpensive and...

Recommendation for a NAS-centric 5G home network setup

How large is your space? Single floor, multi floor? Will the Wifi AP/Router be centrally located? Are you in an urban environment with lots of competing wifi APs? If you don't know, install inSSIDER on your laptop or phone and scan for other networks. Basically, tell us more about your...

Would you use a QNAP NAS in this environment?

I need Group Policy (OU) and Win client/user management. Please point me to a NAS addin that replicates these core Win Server functions. The Seagate and Buffalo models I've seen all run Windows Storage Server. If I already had a Win Server (domain controller) on the LAN, those might be a...

Would you use a QNAP NAS in this environment?

Hi. I need a NAS (for Win client backup storage), simple SMTP server for limited outbound mail usage, and also to possibly to act as a Radius server for Enterprise Wifi auth. I also need a fairly entry level Win Server (Such as Essentials 2012) to be a file server, AD, DHCP, WSUS. Nothing...

Simple NAS device with just Gigabit Ethernet and USB3 ports?

Reputable data recovery services will charge only a fraction of their recovery fees if unsuccessful. If her data is that important, its worth a try. If the disk spins up, I'd recommend trying Spinrite. You'd be amazed how many unreadable drives I've recovered after running Spinrite.

ZyXEL GS1900-8HP Power an Ubiquiti Networks UniFi AP LR on POE

UAP and UAP-LR are not 802.3af POE compliant. UAP-PRO and UAP-AC are 802.3af POE compliant.

    Synology NAS backup storage question

The disk in your PC would not be part of the RAID. You can create a Synology backup job using the RSync protocol and have it sync all data to the disk in your PC.... This is one option... The DS214Play also has an eSata port on the rear. Get a eSata enclosure for your extra disk and connect...

    Linksys WRT1900AC First User Reports

What are you using to determine -12dbm? I've never seen a signal that powerful. Not saying it can't happen... Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk

Netgear and the OpenSSL Heartbleed Vulnerability

And the Asus 68u suffered from same with early firmware. Seems mostly thanks to Broadcom. The R7000 is quite good with current firmware

Does Linksys WRT-1900AC have media bridge like RT-AC66U?

I think its more up to Belkin and if they got their initial firmware right.... Still, I won't expect magic. Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk

Does Linksys WRT-1900AC have media bridge like RT-AC66U?

Looks like Tim has a WRT1900AC. Review coming soon? Don't worry, I'm not expecting anything magical. Just curious.

    RT-AC68U - dual wan difficulties

One thing I noticed with the Asus dual WAN implementation is that fail over would switch to WAN2 but there was no easy way to get the router to return to WAN1 once it came back online. I'm hopeful this new fail back feature will address this limitation. Can someone chime in and confirm fail...
