News PuTTY v0.82 Released Today 2024-11-27

Putty is great if you occasionally need to connect to something, for a quick session. But anything more intensive requires at the very least multiple tabbed sessions, and a more flexible address book. I like how I can do instant search in xshell's address book by starting to type the name of...

    USB Wifi 7 adapter - USB-BE92 Nano

Sounds more like a typo to me.

***** Malware Alert: Phishing ads on this website! *****

I wrote my post because your post specifically quoted "Mr. SmallNetBuilder no more...", and also because you referred to "your website" - people tend to refer to forums as "these forums" rather than as a website. Just making sure everyone were discussing the same thing.

***** Malware Alert: Phishing ads on this website! *****

Make sure you distinguish SmallNetBuilder (the website with reviews) from SNBForums (these forums). The former is what has a new owner (for quite some time already), and whatever ads they serve there isn't under thiggins' control.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_4 is now available

They should be included with the next 3004.388 release. 3006.102 releases however do not, as ROG image support was never included in the 3006 firmware releases.

Risk level remotely connecting to router webui over http?

SSH servers did get hit by a security iussue a few months ago. SSH isn't as secure as VPNs because the protocol is more "open": it can negotiate a wide array of ciphers and key types, it supports various features like tunnelling and compression, and so on. VPNs are more focused, generally set...

For me, nothing comes even close to Xshell.

    Sudden Putty Connection Issue

Your Putty client does not support any of the key exchange protocols supported by your router. You can view supported KEX with the OpenSSH client: ssh -vvv myserver.lan Then look for something like this: debug2: peer server KEXINIT proposal debug2: KEX algorithms...

    OpenWrt One (Unbrickable)

https://one.openwrt.org/hardware/MT7981B_Wi-Fi6_Platform_Datasheet_Open_V1.0.pdf That CPU won't break any speed record. Would be interesting to see what kind of throughput it can achieve if you enable Cake on it.

    Is Asus DDNS Service Reliable?

First, check if the DDNS resolves to the correct IP address. If it doesn't, then your issue is not with the DDNS, but elsewhere in your setup.

OVPN HMAC authentication switching from SHA1 to SHA256

Because the authentication is done by the cipher itself.

Looking for feedback: Anyone considering AiCloud important to them?

Depends on where your files are hosted. But within a LAN, people most commonly just use SMB. Or if they have a server, they use DLNA, Plex, Jellyfin, EMby, etc... Tons of LAN side options.

OVPN HMAC authentication switching from SHA1 to SHA256

Note that with a GMC cipher, you don't need an HMAC.

    Slow LAN After Merlin

Check your cables. One of them is probably unreliable, causing the link to be renegotiated to 100 Mbps.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.2 is now available for Wifi 7 devices

This is unrelated to me however, they directly provide me source code, I am not bound to whichever release they issue. Just like I support the RT-AX56U with a 388.x release, while Asus only offer 386.x firmwares for that model.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.2 is now available for Wifi 7 devices

New ETA received for updated GPLs. We'll see if this time (the third one so far) it will stick...

    Release ASUS RT-AC86U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_51955 (2024/11/08)

Indeed, the team managing it fixed it this morning (they're 12 hours away from us in America).

QNAP Firmware 5.2.2.xxx Update destroys Login and Data

They republished it for a few models, as only some specific models were affected. My TS-464 was not affected, but I believe the popular TS-x53s eries were. This is another reason why I never allow my devices to automatically update themselves. Makes you wonder where the QA is for these large...
