    Route Based Dual WAN Router

What exactly are the "salesmen requirements"? whats the bandwidth you need to support? How many active devices on the network? To start you off, here are some devices that should do what you want; Netgate/pfSense SG-2220 and a layer-2 managed switch for extra WAN/LAN ports (Cisco...

EnGenius Expands Neutron Line of Gigabit Smart Switches for SMBs

The switch does not support static routes so . . . Layer 2 only. Who is this "everyone" that needs to agree on the pricing? This is a switch and wireless controller. "Neutron switches include features such as a web-based management interface" So I would say it supports both GUI and CLI. No demo...

Are gigabit switches different from one another?

There are a few metrics regarding switch performance but they only apply to the extreme of enterprise level applications. One is latency. For gigabit there can be anywhere between a 2.0 and 16.0 µs delay introduced by the switch chip going from port to port. Another is the buffer size. For 24...

How We Test Hardware Routers - Version 4

Are there going to be any devices you will go back to and run the new testing process on? p.s. Thanks for all the great work over the years!

    Router reliability

There is one thing that I have been seeing that is far more useful than you give it credit for . . . VPN services built into the router itself. For things like IPSec site to site or OpenVPN site to site it is orders of magnitude (as measured in time to troubleshoot) easier to have it running...

TP-Link Archer C8 - signal not strong enough - high gain antenna options?

You mentioned moving the router 8ft is enough. Take a look at why. Are you going through less material? Are you going past an electrical panel? Are you moving out from under a metal tray?

    Bonding two DSL connections

Well you really have two options; 1) call your ISP in order to bond the connections. 2) buy a router that does a better job at QOS and load balance the connections.

    Linksys Access Point Clustering Reviewed

What does this mean? " 3) All the APs in this table have Channel Management features, but only the Linksys and Edimax have Channel Management features within their controller solutions. 4) All the APs in this table have wireless Power Management features, but only the Edimax has Power...

    Two subnets...

Yes it does. SMB shares work over multiple ports. By default windows will use UDP if you are on the same local subnet and TCP if you are on a routed subnet. UDP is faster as well due to not requiring the three way confirmation of TCP.

    Rackmount UPS recomendation?

    16Port Switch Suggestions.

Whats the budget/use case? Personally I would go with one of the following: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O1B6NCI/?tag=snbforums-20 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J0N81WW/?tag=snbforums-20 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005KQ5FSG/?tag=snbforums-20 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HIN9RM/?tag=snbforums-20

FORTINET FORTIGATE 100A vs Cisco Rv320

The fortigate 100A has been discontinued for almost 10 years. Specs are 100mb/s throughput and between 20-70mb/s with services turned on. Max connections is 4k/s The only spec on it thats decent is the max simultaneous connections at 200k . . . but that's just due to the amount of RAM in the...

    Two subnets...

First off, your network is more complex than most companies with less than 100 employees have in terms of topology. So yes, it is complex. Second, the network design in the article linked is considered sub-par to the currently accepted topology of Gateway-Router>Layer3 Switch as well use the...

Why No 10GbE For Home Users?

Theres only one 10gBase-T SFP+ module in existence at this time. It is the HP 813874-B21 Because of the reduced power it is good for about 100ft. It also costs about $1500 per module . . . so if you are going SFP+ to SFP+ thats $3000+ the price of the cable. There are no "unbranded" alternatives.

    Possible ASUS Solution

Site on a shoe string budget, got it. Technically an RT-AC68 can handle 10-15 users loaded between each of its radios. Set them to access point mode. Disable any unnecessary services such as the USB port and FTP server. Set the 2.4 to 20mhz, only using channels 1,6,11 and try to avoid overlap...

    Possible ASUS Solution

You have the right idea. The question is how many devices per WAP, not just how many devices on site total. In addition, are you sure you want to have 5x individually management access points vs a model of WAP that can either use a controller or sync changes between themselves?

Router with load balancing for DSL + LTE connection

PPTP is a VPN protocol. I will be honest, I have never heard of a DSL connection requiring a PPTP tunnel in order to establish the flow of data. Verify that it is not listed as; PPP PPPoA PPPoE
