    ASUS RT-BE92U

@Wyllio Do you happen to have any experience with WiFi smart plugs / lights with this router? I don't have the stability issues with this router, and my smart devices as I did with the AX86U when it was new, but I did notice that my lights can take a minute or two to reconnect after a router...

Mesh network router (but not Asus) for over 100 devices

Here is my current setup: GT-AX11000 Main Router (bridged with my ISP router) 5 RT-AX92U nodes Aimesh System with Smart Connect on All devices have the latest firmware. I have over 100 devices on my network. Here is an idea of some of my devices: 5 Ring Floodlights Pro (on 2.4 GHz) 16 TP-Link...

Smart connect rules, leave at defaults?

Just do it... it's obvious... disable Smart Connect and enter the same SSID name for each WLAN. You may discover a particular client will not cooperate as you would like... i.e., connects to the unpreferred band, which is why Smart Connect exists. OE

RT-BE86U - how to disable Smart connect?

Yes. SmartConnect has always been strictly for primary networks under a single unified SSID and didn't include guest networks. Otherwise, they would no longer be isolated, making them pointless. SmartConnect requires all participating bands to share the same SSID.

    RT-AC86U Connecting to mobile hotspot?

Due to personal circumstances I am temporarily (6 months or so) moving to a house without any broadband connection. Currently I am using my phone as portable hotspot but it's a bit of a pain as I want to regularly connect a few devices (console, smart tv, a couple of laptops etc.) Is there any...

    Remote connection with CG-NAT

Setup is an Asus ZEN WIFi AX Hybrid connected to City Fibre in UK and a Huawei B535-333 4G VOLTE connected to the Free Mobile network in France. In France I have cameras, smart plugs and central heating controller all connected by WiFi and I can connect to them from anywhere. What I can’t do is...

    Asuswrt Merlin 3006.102.3 Alpha1 for GT-BE98 Pro

Actually, about Smart Connect - I don't have such setting in my UniFi control panel either. It's done exactly as RMerlin describes the new Asuswrt way - you start with an SSID and attach it to a radio. Multiple radios used enable automatically what Asus calls Smart Connect. This is again...

    RT-AX88U Pro - Merlin Firmware:3004.388.8_2 - WiFi connection problem

Thank you. I updated the Realtek 8812BU drivers, switched off "smart connect" in the router and also switched off the other WiFi networks in our home. It seems better, but I will try it for a bit longer before I am convinced that the issue has actually been resolved. Either way, I will post...

    ASUS RT-BE92U

As I said in my original post, I want one SSID that is 2.4GHz only (for older clients) and another SSID that is 2.4GHz + 5GHz + 6GHz with Smart Connect. The current Web interface does not allow me to do this. Unless I create a guest network, apparently.

    [ 3006.102 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Do Smart connect and MLO not contradict each other. The first trying to give the best connection to a client on one bandwidth and the second trying to give more connections with different bandwidths to a client?

    MLO Network Name

I initially had my BE98 set up like that, and I seemed to have lots of issues with disconnections. I now have different SSID's for my Smart Connect and MLO networks and things are far better for me.

    ASUS RT-BE92U

I have about 35 smart bulbs/plugs/stuff in my IoT network. I had one cranky device (Roomba i3 and the iRobot app) that had to put on the main network for a day. Moved it back and it has been GTG. Otherwise, all the smart thingies just work. I setup the IoT network for 2.4/5 GHz, WPA2 and Set AP...

RT-AX86U Pro, Smart Connect, Pin Device to Band.

I have a AX86U Pro configured with Smart Connect, is it possible to pin certain devices to specific bands (5G, 2.4G) to stop them potentially being shunted between the two, or is the only way to turn off Smart Connect and configure each band individually? Thanks in advance.

GT-AXE16000 cant save Smart Connect settings

"smart" connect has never worked well or been "smart" 12 years of smart connect routers

    BE96/98 updates

Looks like Smart Connect has gone, there's now a switch for MLO Front Haul for Clients under the network config for the main SSID now. I'm still only showing connection to a single radio on my S24U (I forgot the network then reconnected as well)

Even though I don't recommend Smart Connect, I appreciate the time people spend in testing different scenarios and reporting the results. 👍

    Asus GT AXE16000 Issues

GT-AX11000 Deauth-ing only 2.4GHz clients, no internet connection on other devices

It's quite messy on Asus routers, in AiMesh configuration with older model nodes it may not be supported, most people keep it disabled especially for connectivity troubleshooting purposes. It is offered as default setting by Quick Internet Setup, the overall user experience may vary.

    Band steering in Asus Merlin

Speaking from ignorance, these are not very encouraging words... If I understand correctly, the method smart connect uses is that it does not truly account for the devices preference- the device may still decide to try to connect to one band over the other. .... The smart connect page exists for...
