From public fixed IPv4 to private dynamic IPv4 + public dynamic IPv6 (dual stack)

If the ISP will provide a modem only and not a combo device with WiFi, then it may be a wash for you.

From public fixed IPv4 to private dynamic IPv4 + public dynamic IPv6 (dual stack)

In the US, many ISP's that allocate your IP Address dynamically block certain inbound ports (like 80) and can render certain functions unusable. Having a fixed external IP goes with a removal of those restrictions. Before changing the services, be sure that you understand what the service does...

    AC3100 - Odd Wireless Issues

Ok. Then, I'm not going to get the assistance I was looking for. Thanks anyhow.

    AC3100 - Odd Wireless Issues

I disagree. Troubleshooting results in understanding the problem and providing a solution for it. Factory reset is a "solution", not a "troubleshooting step."

    AC3100 - Odd Wireless Issues

I will consider if there is supporting evidence as to WHY this WILL help.

    AC3100 - Odd Wireless Issues

Some background: I have a very long history with technology, including computer networking, that goes back over 20 years. I have a much-larger-than-typical home network that I designed and built and has served me very well for a LOT of years without issue. A few years ago, I was having spotty...

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

This is the 5GHz that's at issue. I'm installing a second router on the other end of the second floor and setting up the AI MESH. That will put the second router directly above the affected area and will hopefully result in an appreciable increase in signal strength in that area. Wired...

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

I believe the current signal level is -70dB and the neighbor's isn't much below that. On one side of the room, it's actually similar strength. If the second device downstairs essentially relies on having the same "type" of wireless connection that a client would use, then I'm not following if...

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

I am fixed with where wired connectivity is available - second floor, one end of the house. Neighbors have stronger wifi signal downstairs, and that's what I needed to improve. I suspect that AI MESH between the two floors would suffer the same issues as a regular client device. True? Also...

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

Apologies - don't know where my brain was... My other router is an RT-AC3100. Sorry. In looking at that other thread, though, it made me wonder - would adding another router and using the AI MESH potentially help me out? Or would that second router need to ALSO be hardwired before the AI MESH...

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

What sort of "big difference"? How similar is the B1 to the 68U in your mind? I have a 68U in another location, and it would seem a pretty different animal.

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

To be very precise, my router is a RT-AC66U_B1. I believe that's actually a slightly newer version of the original and wouldn't be quite as old? It was brand new when I got it, roughly a year ago. Maybe as long as 18 months.

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

I have only owned this one for maybe a year or so. I would hope that it isn't failing, but clearly there's not necessarily a way to tell. I'm considering a "heavy upgrade" to the gear because cutting the cord is a necessary step. And I have no option to hardwire the main TV. I get around 20dB...

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

No, theirs registers as lower power at the point where I'm having issues with a specific device. However, they are using a 40MHz channel width while mine was set to 20/40/80 (auto). I changed the control channel and narrowed the channel width to 40MHz and see no overlap now. Back to testing.

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

I used the WiFi Analyzer and definitely see improperly configured / operating neighbor networks that are stepping all over mine. I'm going to try manually setting the channels on mine and then might have to talk to the neighbors. Problem is, the neighbors likely have cable-co managed devices and...

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

I can't say whether I see a change in signals or anything because I don't have a specific recording or recollection of what they were. As far as overlap from a neighbor or some other device - what's the most effective way for me to trace something like that? I have iOS and Android phones in the...

AT66U "Sudden" loss of Wireless Performance

Both the 2.4 and 5GHz wireless frequencies recently dropped performance significantly, and I can't seem to figure out where to start. No new firmware, and I think mostly all of the same WiFi devices (I added a couple of smart switches to the 2.4GHz band). No configuration changes. I've...

Advice on Firmware and Config for AC3100

Interesting tidbit I just learned... Traditional QoS works fine if you flip the values for upload and download speeds... Sigh.

Advice on Firmware and Config for AC3100

The version of iptables is from 2011. Clearly, it predates ASUS even putting this hardware into development let alone production release. The reason I don't know my firmware version off the top of my head is because I don't care, not because I don't keep it updated somewhat regularly. Turns...

Advice on Firmware and Config for AC3100

I shelled into the router and see the "mangle_rules" file has a number of entries for a chain called "QOS0". Executing iptables -L does not show that particular chain, however. I also see that the version of iptables on this device is QUITE old.
