Kamoj Kamoj Addon 5.5 Beta for Netgear R7800/R8900/R9000 with Voxel FW

Hi. @kamoj One question about an older post. Can you give the full command that can be run from console for above. Like this one - while :;do cat /proc/sys/dev/nss/clock/current_freq; dmesg | awk '/Frequency Set to/ {print $NF/1000000" MHz"}' | tail -n1;sleep 3;done Thanks.

[R7800] Will no longer save settings after reboot.

I can only talk about OpenWrt here, but regarding the performance statement I can only say that I compile my own custom NSS enabled OpenWrt master build with kernel 5.15 and ton of optimizations for lower Wi-Fi latency and bufferbloat. It is light years ahead of the original NG firmware...

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

I have to announce really good news. After lots of tests and with the help of a lot of people I think the main reason for the issue has been identified. It's the Flow Control settings of the switch. You can read more in the above thread. Fortunately there is a way (at least in my case but...

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

I've opened a new thread here https://forum.openwrt.org/t/severe-wan-performance-degradation-when-fast-ethernet-devices-are-connected-to-a-gigabit-switch-and-transfer-data-over-lan-probably-present-on-most-openwrt-versions/129135?u=sppmaster because as it seems the issue is not specific only to...

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

There are good reads like this https://kb.netgear.com/25091/Guidance-on-the-use-of-jumbo-frames In general it is not recommended to enable jumbo frames and the improvement would be marginal. But enabling it only on a part of the network devices will cause troubles or even break the network.

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

Pinging 192.168.1.12 with 9000 bytes of data: Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set. The client .12 is 100Mbps. Probably it's not this because the WAN/LAN performance is varying between 20-200Mbps. I've just contacted Belkin support and they couldn't help much but escalated the issue and...

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

I've benchmarked a Belkin RT3200 with the same tests with a 100Mbps client connected to the LAN switch port of RT3200. It still runs factory firmware. I can hardly reach 200Mbps down and 20Mbps upload speeds. I have 1000/700Mbps from my ISP. I can only say that I see the same decrease in the WAN...

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

You've understood correct all that I've written so far. I haven't tried the third test you suggest because it will require a bit of rearrangement of my LAN equipment and cables. Surely I'll try this. It may take 10 or even more days before I'm able to do this. Unfortunately at the moment I have...

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

I agree with you. Currently I don't have enough time to try anything with wireshark. About the debugging of the driver I'm not the right person although I have some experience working with debugger programs in the past. But the main problem is that the manufacturer has to admit and fix the issue...

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

I use it currently with Switch: Qualcomm Atheros QCA8337 Look here https://github.com/Deoptim/atheros/blob/master/QCA8337-datasheet.pdf Looks really advanced switch. 362 pages to read. 4k VLANs. https://forum.openwrt.org/t/maximum-number-of-vlans/34084 Other switches aren't even close to this.

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

If it's really a kernel issue it's strange no one noticed this. Maybe it's a kernel driver issue and if someone is able to fix this soon, maybe Netgear can do it too.

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

I'm currently using three VLANs with OpenWRT firmware and cannot see a difference. There are 2 or 3 other really similar issues reported on OpenWRT Github with other router models. Yesterday a Mikrotik user shared his experience https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=185253 Looks similar...

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.93SF

I've never tried with just one port because I didn't have enough 1Gbps devices to connect to the additional switch. Maybe I'll be able to rearrange my network setup and try this too. If you can test and run network traffic between any 1Gbps device (if you have a PC to use as a server) and at...

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.93SF

Doesn't seem like a limitation just because sometimes the WAN down speed is ridiculous 20-30Mbps with ping above 200-300ms. At that time the LAN traffic is around 200-300Mbps over a gigabit connection.

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.93SF

Should not be hardware because I've tested the same network setup with ISP's realy cheap gigabit router and that works flawlessly. I was able to have full gigabit WAN download speed while four 100Mbps devices were transferring data over LAN from the PC server. And the R7800 doesn't have such a...

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.93SF

You can see the details in my posts. This issue is difficult to be detected with just one 100Mbps device but it remains hidden and spoils the WAN/LAN performance differently depending on the current network traffic. And it is compulsory to have simultaneous WAN and LAN traffic in order to...

Voxel Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.93SF

Unfortunately the Netgear stock firmware contains a bug (@Voxel firmware is affected too) that causes WAN/LAN performance degradation. Full details are here https://www.snbforums.com/threads/r7800-poor-wan-download-upload-rate-when-a-client-is-connected-at-100mbps.78375/ I summarized the issue...

    [R7800] settings/disable/optimization documentation consolidation

Currently R7800 firmware (@Voxel firmware is affected too) has a really annoying software bug. I've described it in this post https://www.snbforums.com/threads/r7800-poor-wan-download-upload-rate-when-a-client-is-connected-at-100mbps.78375/ Unfortunately if you have any 100Mbps client devices...

R7800 poor WAN download/upload rate when a Fast Ethernet client is connected at 100Mbps to a Gigabit built-in switch (Workaround available)

To summarize the issue. The Netgear stock firmware has a bug which causes really huge WAN performance degradation when a 100Mbps LAN client (Smart TV, AndroidTV box, etc.) is connected to any router LAN port and that 100Mbps device transfers data over LAN. The WiFi is not affected by this bug...
