I have a similar issue with an ax86 pro and aimesh. I have to bind all the Echo devices to the main router or else the multi room music will eventually fail.Just an observation here. We've a Samsung Soundbar that will connect to Amazon Alexa devices such that it mimics being a full-blown Alexa device itself. However, in order for it not to fail, it has to be connected to the same AP, same SSID, and same band as the Alexa device it's working with. If not it's Alexa capabilities fail after a day or two. It looks like it's a distinct issue with the soundbar! Nothing else here has an issue!
Hi. I managed to solve the problem for me. In my case, the problem was caused by a TP-Link router that worked as a WiFi extender. Since I turned it off, everything has been working without problems for over 10 days
Same situation. In order to get my Alexa devices to work reliably I created a specific SSID for them on my AX88Pro. It is on guest network 3 on the 2.4 Ghz band so it does not appear on MESH nodes.Just an observation here. So I'm in the market for a new router and the AX88U Pro is the top contender. I'm upgrading from an aging Netgear Nighthawk AC2100. So is this something I should be concerned about whereas the OP in this thread mentioned that the AX86U Pro has an issue with 2.4 and 5ghz clients not communicating with each other. Are you saying this is also an issue with the AX88U Pro? I only have a few devices that run on 2.4 currently (thermostat and a printer) and maybe one or two more. Will I have an issue with these 2.4ghz devices on the AX88U Pro?Same situation. In order to get my Alexa devices to work reliably I created a specific SSID for them on my AX88Pro. Here, it's just that one specific device, other "Alexa" compatible/specific devices work just fine no matter whatSame situation. Alexa devices try to be smart and remember SSIDs they have been connected to, and I have had problems if I reconfigure my wireless networks getting certain devices to be connected where I want them becomes a challenge. Here, it's just that one specific device, other "Alexa" compatible/specific devices work just fine no matter what
Thank you. Will take a closer look at Merlin. I thought others still had the problem with Merlin, so had not considered it. But might have to go down that track. Appreciate your response. That's sucks the issue is still there for you. Just as a data point however, i have an AX86U Pro running latest Merlin and don't have that issue. Just printed from my phone on 5GHz to 2.4GHz Brother wifi printer and can connect to my Ring cameras also on 2.4GHz.
Provide more information. What firmware are you using? How is your wifi configured? Are you using guest network wifi for your wifi clients? Are you using AiMesh nodes? Do you have "client isolation" enabled for WiFi clients? It has now been nearly a year since I installed and configured my new AX86U Pro router and I am still having the problem with devices on 5G not being able to communicate with devices on 2.5G.
I suspect you'll have the same problem with Merlin. I've an RT-AX86U Pro using Merlin and have the same issue. No real pattern - sometimes it's weeks, sometimes days. Have tried resetting to defaults with no cure. I was considering going back to Asus firmware but as you're experiencing the same issue you've saved me the effort!Thank you. V3.0.0.6.102_34336, Smart Connect disabled, WPS disabled, Guest access disabled, 2.5ghz 20Mhz bandwidth (recent change), Wifi6 disabled, auto control channel, 5.0ghz 20/40/80 bandwidth, Wifi6 disabled, auto control channel. Had same settings with my previous ASUS 68U and never had a problem. Have rebooted router today, but expect that problem will be back again in a couple of weeks (as per my, and others, previous posts). Thanks for your informationProvide more information. Currently using a RT-AX86U Pro running 3.0.0.6.102_34336. My 5 Ghz main LAN WiFi clients can ping/access the main LAN WiFi 2.4 Ghz clients. Also didn't have any issues with main LAN WiFi clients being able to access each other when using Asus-Merlin 3004.388.8_4 firmware.
Not sure why you and others may be having issues. Have 44 days of up time (see attached) and during all that time 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz main LAN WiFi clients can ping/see each other. Didn't have any problems either when using Asus-Merlin with uptime measured in multiple months..... but expect that problem will be back again in a couple of weeks (as per my, and others, previous posts).
Uptime seems irrelevant to routers that experience the problem. When it happens the router can ping devices on both radios but packets from devices on each radio get dropped at the router. It appears to be a routing or iptables (eg in the forward chain) issue but no obvious cause has been found by anyone yet. A router reboot is the easiest fix.Not sure why you and others may be having issues. Two differences I see from mine that may help:V3.0.0.6.102_34336, Smart Connect disabled, WPS disabled, Guest access disabled, 2.5ghz 20Mhz bandwidth (recent change), Wifi6 disabled, auto control channel, 5.0ghz 20/40/80 bandwidth, Wifi6 disabled, auto control channel. I have the same setting but it does not fix the issue. The printer and some cameras still do not work from 5G. I reboot the router and it all works for a little while. Very strange. Two differences I see from mine that may help:
- Fixed wifi channels on both bands instead of auto
- Unique SSIDs for 2.4 and 5GHz, so no need for Smart Connect
