I have some issues with WPA2/WPA3 and old iOS devices that can't be updated to the latest iOS version. When the router is in WPA2/WPA3 mode the iOS 13.3 devices fail to connect. When I set the router to WPA2 only the older devices have no problem connecting. I was under the impression that WPA2/WPA3 is for older devices that don't support WPA3 only so they still can connect through WPA2. But I guess there are other underlying changes in the WPA2 implementation when selecting WPA2/WPA3. Does anyone know more about why those two authentication methods are not equal?

I had this issue with the 2.4GHz band to Roost temp/humidity devices and an old Epson printer. Noted that the 2.4Ghz channel had auto'd to channel #7. When I manually changed to channel #6 then all ok?? I've not had a chance to try to recreate, to nail it down, but was a solid failure. With Alpha2 (and last Alpha1) all working fine on WPA2/WPA3 for me and about 25 clients in the house.

I have no answer to your question but perhaps this might solve your situation:
If you have not done so already, it is strongly advisable to do a "Reset Network Settings" on Apple devices after you load a new firmware on your router. After that connect your devices to the router. The authentication to the WiFi is then completely on par again with your router(s). The initial authentication may take a bit longer.
I tried to reset the network but that didn't help either.

I see in your signature that you are running 384.15 Alpha 1 on your RT-AC88U.

Simply follow the link in my signature below to find the amtm Step-by-Step Guide to get script 'smart'! :)

Even easier? If you upgrade to the 384.15 Alpha 2 version, you can skip the part where you actually install amtm because its built-in to the firmware going forward. Everything else though is the same.

Use the guide; it's so easy even a non-tech like I can write it! :D:D:D

Once you begin, you'll never look back. Just like @thelonelycoder promised me and the rest of us so many years ago. ;)
Thank you. I may get up the nerve to give this a try!

Your iphone doesn't like protected management frames, however to disable you must disable multi banding as well. This will work by neutering your wifi 6 capabilities.

Upgraded with no issues from Alpha1 - Alpha2.

One thing I did notice and it might only be a coincidence. While the VPN server spinning wheel still continues during in the twenty seven hours I have been on 15Alpha2 the spinning wheel/ vpnserver1 staring event has stopped writing 21 lines to the log file every two minutes.

Yes, they use wpa-supplicant instead of Broadcom's proprietary daemon.

I've gotten as far as the "Prepare the USB Drive for the swap file, Entware, and scripts" section of your guide, but none of the commands entered through Putty work.

@AntonK you're already running 384.15 Alpha 2, so amtm should be installed. Type in amtm and hit enter.

Or, if that doesn't work, type in /jffs/scripts/amtm and hit enter.

Now, you should see the amtm menu and the commands you can type too (hit 'i' for more options). :)

Yikes, yes, you're right. Just typing AMTM brought up the menu.

Thanks so much! Everything is working, and I've got Diversion installed too!

Thanks for confirming this. Still surprised that WPA2 isn't a strict standard that works the same for all devices which support it.

I don't know how long this problem exists, but I can't export my openvpn config anymore.

I just see the message "Initialinzing the settings of OpenVPN server now, please wait a few minutes to let the server to setup completed before VPN clients establish the connection. " forever. VPN status page tells me "OpenVPN Server 1 - Running".. Even defaulting the openvpn config doesn't change that.. Any hints here? :(

EDIT: Nevermind, found that thread here:
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-ac86u-merlin-384-6-openvpn-server-initializing.47992/

EDIT: The command "service restart_vpnserver1" sadly doesn't seem to fix my problem :(

Does anybody know a different fix for that problem expect a full flash? :D

The Alpha firmware is not going well for me on my AX88U
I did a reset as the 5Ghz was unstable after a dirty upgrade from 384.14.
Now every few minutes I'm logged out of the gui and it drops the WAN connection
I noticed it first when configuring the names in the network list and seems to happen more frequently when logged into the router.
I'm looking through the logs to see if I can find anything but reckon will have to revert back to 384.14

Bad news, I don't think there is a fix. Good news is that the VPN server is actually working. In order to download the OVPN file you need to stop the spinning circle. You can do this by turning the VPN server off then turn it back on. You will have about two minutes to download the file before the spinning circle starts again.

I had though that 15Alpha2 had at least resolved the issue of the VPN server writing 21 lines every two minutes to the log. Not so sure anymore as I now see open VPN server entries in the log again.

I'm still getting this log entry with alpha 2

Code:
Jan 29 10:05:43 inadyn[1392]: Failed connecting to dynupdate.no-ip.com: Interrupted system call
