Hi,

Performance should be covered by the SNB reviews.
My previous router was a Netgear WNDR3700.
Had bad experience with firmware.
Netgear support dropped of quickly leaving me with a half baked firmware version.
Third party support was severly hampered by Netgears lacl of openess.
Eventually I have up and looked around.
My choice was the ASUS RT-N66U.
Main reason. you have a good product with great firmware support from the vendor, but also open source code for third parties like RMerlin as well as other formwares.
The vendor is activily engaging the coimmunity by supporting RMerlin.

This makes a huge difference to me, I am not left with firmware that has no prospect of ever delivering whats promised on the box, at least not through lack of trying.

The variation in performance for high end routers are secondary to the overall stability and reliability, for me at least.

I returned the R6300 for the RT-AC66R and never looked back. I get better performance and it is a stable product.

That's a very good point. The E4200 which I currently have has not had it's firmware updated since November 2012. It appears that development of the firmware was stopped or put on hold for the newer EA series such as the 6500.

I'm leaning more and more towards the RT-AC66U but I'd like to know whether it is worth waiting for the RT-AC68U or just to go with the RT-AC66U. The RT-AC68U I have heard won't be released till August/September (according to Singapore Hardware forums).

Hi Dark Knight,

You might want take the information as a pinch of salt as the ASUS RT-AC68U ETA is subjected to changes, from the look of it it's going beyond Aug/Sep and I don't have any updated ETA neither.
