Right out of the box and the only thing that works is the WIFI. None of the LAN ports work.

I have tried several different ethernet cables and they all work on the WAN port, but not the LAN ports.

ASUS routers are faulty and fragile. I was previously on the AC66U for less than a year before it died out (yes, died out. None of the lights come on. At first I thought it was the infamous power adapter, but no, because I just bought the 1900P and both power adapters work on the 1900P).

The LAN Ports does not work whether I'm on Merlin or the factory settings. Like wtf? Do ASUS routers commonly have issues or am I just unlucky?

Is there anything I can do? It's currently 12 AM and Best Buy doesn't open until 10 AM.

EDIT: Actually, I'm stuck on the Merlin firmware. Even after factory reset, it's still on Merlin firmware. Am I SOL?

A factory default reset resets the currently installed firmware to - well - factory defaults.
There can only be one version of the firmware on the router, there's no place or space to keep another firmware handy for that. Every default setting on every device I know of works that way.

About the LAN ports: No blinking lights on the devices Ethernet port when you connect it?

That's strange because after resetting it by WPS method and Administration tab, I was still left with the latest Merlin firmware. I went and downloaded the latest ASUS firmware from their website and it has not fixed my problem.

No blinking lights whatsoever on any of the ports. It's like only one side of the router works (the side with the WAN outlet) and the other side is bricked (LAN ports). I've tried my Xbox and my laptop with various different cables and nothing. I literally just unboxed it earlier today.

I feel sorry for you with two routers playing up on you.
That certainly is less common. I have four routers, all with no problems, not even the wireless-problem prone RT-AC87U.
Return that new router, and maybe have a second look first at that 66U. Google reset for that device, maybe one of the results work for you. There is more than one way to reset an Asus router.

What do you mean? It won't even turn on. There is no power... unless you know of a way to reset it without any power?

I've tried the holding down a button for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds, let go, press power button, etc... nothing works.

If the warranty period is over, I would open it and put my eyes and nose to it.
But then, you might not understand what you see and smell there. In that case, you have another brick in the wall.

If none of the lights/ LAN ports worked " out of the box " why did you flash another firmware and not return the router straight away?

How did you flash Merlin to the router with no LAN port working , did you use WiFi ?

I've been using Merlin since the 66u days so as soon as I finished the quick set-up, I flashed Merlin right away.

Yes, I used WIFI to set up. Surprised me too since I had to use the ethernet to set up on the 66u. But no matter, I will be returning it and hopefully they will switch it out for a "new" one. I will also be contacting ASUS about the 66u as well. It hasn't even been 8 months yet and it's dead.

There have been a few 66/68u's with dodgy power switches , they usually fail out of warranty.

Sounds like the 1900 is faulty , hope you get it exchanged.

The power switch seems fine to me. They pop in and out as they should making that click noise when you push it. It's just dead (e.g. no power) unless that's what you meant by "power switch".

A reset does not replace a firmware. It's like expecting the reset button on your Windows desktop to revert back from Windows 10 to Windows 7. If you want to switch to a different firmware version, it has to be flashed. Resets only affect the configuration.

I just got a replacement from BB and guess what? It's the exact same shirt! None of the LAN ports are working. Like wtf? I'm at a loss for words. 1900P is fracking trash.

I mean seriously, this has to be the most simplest basic function any caveman can do and ASUS still manages to get it wrong... TWICE. It's literally plug and play and they still can't get it right.

You're forgetting the one common factor through all your woes...

The problem is more likely yourself and your attitude .............

It certainly will be if I receive another brick from BB.
I bet it was just bad luck. The reason I stick with local stores for DOA exchanges.

My 1900P is working well from day 1. I bought my from Best Buy too.
