Got to say...2 firmware updates in a weeks time....I love Asus!:D

Lets see .... the Netgear my friend has...not updated since October of last year.

Also, I am seeing many reports of this firmware causing random reboots on the AC68U....

I haven't had any reboots with the previous version (.4422) on my AC56U.

Update: Been running for about 24hrs now....no issues so far.

Only thing I noticed was when router rebooted after update, my DSL WAN took 2x longer than usual to connect. Log mentioned timeout getting PADO packets....but it connected fine after a few retries. Only time I have seen that error was when CenturyLink actually was having issues. Seems fine now.

It's good to see that they're being aggressive with the updates. There are still people with 2.4ghz issues, though. I hope they don't forget that.

Preamble Type

Not sure why Asus has the Preamble Type default set to long....that is most compatible with older hardware, but is worse for performance(although marginally from what I have read.)

I just set it to Short and my S3 actually seems to be working more smoothly than before....doesn't buffer or lag loading YouTube or facebook as much as it used to. Steaming HDTV to my laptop...also seems slightly improved and more stable.

Its in Wireless/Professional tab.

Because reliability/compatibility is more important than performance in any product when it comes to factory default settings.

From what I read...long preamble was for old B, and G devices. And I have had older N routers from various vendors that come default short.

Why ship a modern AC router set for that far-back for compatibility...I highly doubt anyone buying an AC router would still have such old devices....but whatever.... I have it set exclusively to "N + AC" mode....so they could at least have it so that the preamble setting is changed based on that setting.

The Playstation3, still very widely used, is 802.11g only, for example.

LOL...really...had no idea...that surprises me...that's a newer device (I am not a gamer...so I don't know anything about counsels)

Anyway, I still don't get how people would want to use wifi for such bandwidth intensive devices like gaming counsels and media steaming devices. Wired Ethernet is a must for those if you ask me.

I have a Sony media steamer and it was pretty much useless when using it on wifi....hooked it up via wire...and it works flawlessly.

I wish more devices were dual band compatible....I don't even use 2.4ghz wifi any more...5ghz is so much faster.

Agreed, the adoption rate of 5 GHz is pretty disappointing. I blame laptop manufacturers who still save 2-3$ per laptop by using old single band wireless interfaces in all but the mid-to-high end laptops.

LAN wired transfer rates

Guys, is it just me or wired LAN transfers are slow with the latest firmware updates from ASUS?

ALL my internal network copy speeds are much slower... only after I enabled 4Mb jumbo frames, I was able to touch 50Mb/s... with Merlin I recall on the same networks, same PCs I was hitting much higher number - and that without jumbo frames...

I used to get just over 100MB's per second....recent firmwares seemed to have lowered that to about 80-90MB's....

My cisco e2000 I had for the longest time with tomatoUSB on it...always gave a solid and consistent 95-103MB's...every time....

Update: I enabled Jumbo Frames....and tweaked my systems NIC cards....now I am up to about 110MB's.

ok...this is weird. Just had a random reboot. Wasn't really doing anything. Not sure what triggered it.
