I didn't think there was either but read it in a couple different reviews on BB and Amazon just asking the good folk's here if they had heard of it .

Thats not AC68. Ive seen those reviews as well. Ignore them all and wait till one of us here actually get their hands on one.

I was at a tech store this morning and was looking at all the RT-AC68U boxes I could reach; they were all Hardware Version A1. An employee came to see what I was doing and I recruited him to check the back store inventory for an A2 version. 10 minutes later; no dice. He told me to check next week (I had convinced him it was available, :) ).

I have a feeling RMerlin or maylyn would have the scoop on a new HW version before anyone else.

Thanks I have been checking the Labels also at BB and a couple computer shops all seem to be A1 also. Guess it was just bad information was just making sure. I thought maybe they had changed the radio's or something after the whole Netgear ordeal

Amazon - in the FWIW category

I just got an RT-AC68U from Amazon, it is H/W ver A1, F/W 3.0.0.4.374 and was made this year.

How do you know it was made this year??

What are the last 3 digits for the firmware version? The 3 number after 374.

on the sticker on the outside of the box with the upc, ean, s/n, mac, etc, there's a "MFG YEAR: 2014". It's still in the box so I don't have the 3 digs yet.

It's printed on the outside of the box - on the upc label.

it should read 3.0.0.4.374_###

What are the 3 "#s" that show up after the .374?

This is my first post.

I just picked up a new AC-68U manufactured in 2014.

The clerk told me the newer stock starts with serial #DC....

I have read that while hardware revision still shows A1, there are four or more PCB versions. The newest being in the 1.7x range.

Is there a way to telnet into the unit to determine what version one has inside?

Gerry, I would be pleasantly surprised if the board version number showed with a telnet command.

I think you may have to open up the router to verify it for sure.

If you do, take pictures. :)

iirc, i want to say one of THiggins' reviews opened up the n66 and showed where that's indicated on the board

Snooping Merlin's build (which is based on Asus') shows there seems to be a v2 indeed. An RT-AC69U too.

I don't think either is available yet, but they should be in the works.

RT-AC68U_V2: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/search?q=RT-AC68U_V2&type=Code
RT-AC69U: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/search?q=RT-AC69U&type=Code

They appeared on the merge with Asus' latest firmware.

Thats insane, AC68U Rev. 1.6, 1.61, 1.68, 1.7 and now AC68V2 and ACV69, something should have been very bad on AC68U (USB3 / 2.4GHZ interference) probably, i should ask why not 2x 3.0USB, its riddicullous since 3.0 its retro compatible.

Just because router models show up in the source code doesn't meant these will ever be released. Sometimes they are just experimental devices.
