i'm new here and am trying to get familiar as well as a couple questions.
  • i'm getting the dnsmasq localhost naming error that's been described before every minute. the device is a samsung powerbot vacuum and it connects via a cell app.is there a method to rename this device? what i've read so far does not work.
  • i still have some network map issues with this current release. how do we report problems?
  • the board read me mentions performing a reset. this device has no reset button per se. could they be referencing the power button?
  • is the log internal to the router or saved on disk?
i've ha this box for about 10 days now. coming from a linksys wrt3200acm, this thing is heaven! anything i can do to get the one petty annoyance fixed would be appreciated.

You need to change the host name that is trying to be registered in DNS. I don't believe you can do this with stock Asus firmware, you'd have to use Merlin instead.

Probably over on Asus' own forums.

the board read me mentions performing a reset. this device has no reset button per se. could they be referencing the power button?

Don't know, I don't have an 86U.

is the log internal to the router or saved on disk?

On the router.

Samsung needs to hire developers who completed Networking 101. Seriously.

many thanks to each of you that replied.

is the merlin fw very different from stock? how stable is it? is there a read me on how to install and possibly revert back? i've read about using "rescue mode" and am thinking that's the method.
thanks so much

right you are! they are so out of touch, even over the phone. the device won't accept special characters in a password used with the ssid. that's insane!!
at the right price, the device itself is impressive though. still no more sammy or linksys devices for me.

you're doing great work here - much obliged!

yep, on the 86u, that's the power button! it's a toggle.
You're looking in the wrong place! There's another button, very small, above the power button. It's labelled "reset". What do you mean you can't see the black writing on the black background.:D

Here is the link to the information about Merlin's firmware.
The primary goals of this project are to fix bugs, add a few basic features and tweaks to the original firmware. This firmware will try to remain as close as possible to the original firmware. If you are looking for a slew of advanced features, then this project is not for you. Look at TomatoUSB or DD-WRT, two excellent products that might suit your needs better.
