Hello,

Are the 4 antennas all the same or are they different for 2.4GHz and 5GHz?

Also Question about temps.
My Temps are 2.4: 46°C, 5GHz: 71°C CPU: 73°C
Is that OK?

I pretty sure the antennas are duel band and work for both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz at the same time. And your temps look good for the 2.4 Ghz and CPU but your 5 Ghz radio is getting hot. Funny how the 87U has a radio that runs almost as hot as the CPU. :eek:o_O

It's not just a radio, it also contains an ARC CPU inside it (and possibly some other components).

Antennas are all the same. Apparently it's ok but for my liking it was just too hot. Good router but swapped it for an AC3200 instead - as it doesn't get as hot - is easier to cool - and will probably last longer.

Yeah pretty much the same. A lot of people say it's ok for it to be so hot but personally think it will affect the long term use of the router. There's a good thread on here about what people are doing to cool theirs down - but I just think it's a bit too much for a router you already pay a lot of money for.

i have 2 87u, and both have now temp 84-87C (ambient is ~30-34C). With cooling pad (super slow fan) i have max 74-76CC. When ambient temp is normal 24C i have 79-82C without cooling pad.

Do you speak about the 5GHz radio or the CPU?
CPU, i have disabled 5GHz but temp is about 60-70C, i don't remember now.

I think I have to live with that or mount some fans...
Thats a really bad thermal design from Asus...

Thanks for all your response, made me feel more confident. :D

I personally got sick and tired of it - swapped it for the AC3200

Show your temp from RT-AC3200 with standard manufactur fan.

No it runs warm normal (the AC87U runs HOT) but I attached a 120mm fan underneath to keep it cooler, so it lasts longer. The AC87U runs hot normal and even with a 120mm still runs hot. I tried attaching 2 120mm fans and it still ran hot. Such a poor design.
