AC87U Enable MU-MIMO?

ccsasuke

New Around Here
I know that ASUS RT-AC87u has a MU-MIMO enabled hardware, but I remember reading somewhere that at first ASUS did not give the user an option to enable it in the firmware as they thought it was not ready.. I later read that at some time around Nov 2015, ASUS decided to enable this function in the firmware, but with their latest firmware, I still cannot find the option where I can choose to enable or disable MU-MIMO.

So anyone knows that whether ASUSWRT supports MU-MIMO yet? If so, how to enable it? If not, what about ASUSWRT-Merlin? Or even DD-WRT?

tl;dr: Is there any firmware that can enable MU-MIMO for AC87U at this time?

I do not think that MU-MIMO was ever available for the RT-AC87U in working form.

Thought I saw where there was a SW release for the 87U that enabled MU - in any event, likely it's going to be auto-magic in any event...

I believe it was enabled in some of the last beta releases they issued at the end of the year.

I read a news article saying this, but couldn't find the beta firmware.. At least not on the US support website.. Any chance that merlin will support this in the near future?

I can't do anything until Asus implements it, and they publish the source code to that effect.

all new beta fw based on 380 branch have mu-mimo impelemnted, or switch in professional tab (mu-mimo on/off) is a fake ?

No 380 firmware is available via the Support download sites. Until it is, I don't consider MU-MIMO released or supported on the product.

On my AC87U I see under Wireless / Professional:
Multi-User MIMO *BETA = Enable
"Current MU-MIMO specification is still under Wi-Fi Alliance's testing and might have compatibility issues among different brands. Wi-Fi Alliance is estimated to announce certification program by Jun. 2016."

To have MU-MIMO or not to have MU-MiMO, that is the question:
Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer
The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles, ...

Looks like the same question was already asked in the 17th century, but was never answered until we get MU-MIMO on our beloved Asus router!

*) based on "Nunnery Scene" of William Shakespeare's play Hamlet.

Thanks, Joe. Guess ASUS decided to go it alone supporting MU-MIMO on Quantenna.

MU-MIMO is available since the BETA .380 firmware branch released end of december. You can request it directly at Asus support.
