Have you seen this:
Official support:
RT-AC66U_B1 (use the RT-AC68U firmware)
RT-AC68U/RT-AC68P/RT-AC68UF/RT-AC1900/RT-AC1900P (same firmware)
RT-AC87U
RT-AC88U
RT-AC3100
RT-AC3200
RT-AC5300
RT-AC86U
RT-AX88U

Yes, but is that list accurate?

DSL-AC68U support is available, but not on that list. This model is a good example of not being officially supported, but works incredibly well.

I would be astounded if Merlin was incompatible with the 4G-AC68U

Yes, new RT-AX88U is there so it's accurate.

The list is accurate - I do not support the DSL-AC68U. Someone else has a variant of my firmware that supports it.

So you are saying if I buy an Asus 4G-68u, I won't be able to get Merlin working on it - the 4G part

If you have never tried, I will accept that too.

I'm not interested in official support, I just want to know whether it will work or not.

The 4G-AC68U requires a firmware specifically compiled for that model. You cannot use a firmware compiled for a different model.

Just FYI

The 4G-AC68U is so much better than using a 4G USB dongle - even in an AX88U

It’s a Cat 6 modem compared to Cat 4, and has two high gain cellular antenna.

Using the E3272, I get 2 of 5 bars. With the 4G-AC68u, I get 5 of 5.

I’m now getting 4 times the bandwidth.
