Ok I try 192.168.1.1. Same damn message. Ok Try 192.168.0.1, same thing.
I don't know if it's the same as with the ax routers but have you tried 192.168.50.1?

@Ripshod

First off thank you for leading me down a path. I wanted to see where you got that IP from, router manual, page 112. I would of never looked, since https://router.asus.com is always used or the fall back is 192.168.1.1.
How to restore the system to its default settings?
• Go to Administration > Restore/Save/Upload Setting, and
click Restore.
The following are the factory default settings:
User Name: admin
Password: admin
Enable DHCP: Yes (if WAN cable is plugged in)
IP address: 192.168.50.1
Domain Name: (Blank)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS Server 1: router.asus.com
DNS Server 2: (Blank)
SSID (2.4GHz): ASUS
SSID (5GHz): ASUS_5G

Now this leads me to ask... why not adhere to the standard of 192.168.1.1? Going to 192.168.50.1 takes me to the Routers GUI login page but it's not HTTPS://. No worries, I log in and upload my profile back to the router. After it takes it logs me back out. I then try https://router.asus.com but it gives me a "this site can't be reached". Ok... odd, I remove the S in HTTPS:// and it works, 192.168.50.1 still works but it's no longer secure. Why all of a sudden now after it working with https://router.asus.com it just wont?? Also after logging in it would randomly log me out multiple times, is that normal?

My new RT-AX89X is coming today for me to compare to see what's going on. I will be seeing if the NODES will connect to the new router without having to bend over backwards to install some "new" firmware to maybe get my nodes back online.

I did a factory reset, readded it to the mesh, and it's been holding fairly solid. Still some dropping of wifi but it no longer turns red.
I just now saw they released a new firmware. Going to flash it now.

Well, tried that twice and never took so going to just stick with 42860 I guess.

Hi all,

I can ssh into the RP-AX56 (ASUS RP-AX56 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_51891) via the main router RT-AX88U Pro (Asuswrt-Merlin Firmware:3004.388.8_2) and I can follow all the other steps:

3. 'cd /jffs/asd'
4. 'ls' (that's a lowercase L)
5. file named 'chknvram********' in there.
6. next command was 'rm chknvram********'
7. 'exit'
8. Download firmware (https://www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/range-extenders/all-series/rp-ax56/helpdesk_bios/?model2... )
9. Manually install firmware (even it is the same version that you had installed already)

Only…. It doesn’t seem to fix the problem. Should I try downgrading the ASUS RP-AX56 Firmware ever downwards until it works? Or is there another, better way, to go ahead from here? I really would like to add another node to my AiMesh.

Best,

KrautHolg

The asd file versions are not related to the firmware version, as in your RP-AX56 with asus firmware will have the exact same asd files my RT-AX88U has with Merlin firmware. When you remove them they'll be automatically downloaded again.

Not sure why a year old plus thread was necroposted, but deleting the Asus ASD signature files and having them automatically redownloaded by the Asus (or Asus-Merlin) firmware is EXPECTED behavior.

What problem with AiMesh are you trying to solve by deleting the, very likely unrelated to AiMesh, Asus ASD signature files?

Thank you. That is exactly what I thought and why I decided it couldn't hurt to "refresh" them. Any ideas on where to go from here?

Sorry about the "necroposting", but I couldn't find another thread which more closely resembles my problem. I can add the RP-AX56 to the AiMesh and all is good as long as it stays connected via LAN. If I unplug the LAN cable and move the RP-AX56 away from the router, the connection breaks down and the LED flashes blue rapidly.

I seem to be unable to get a stable WiFi connection to the router and then plug in an device into the LAN port of the RP-AX56, which is what I have been trying to accomplish all along.

If you are changing from AiMesh Ethernet backhaul to WiFi backhaul then you may need to change the Backhaul Connection Priority setting in the Ai Mesh management section for that AiMesh Node. This assumes the node is configured with the proper WiFi credentials to join the main router. The following Asus Support articles, if you haven't seen them already, may or may not provide some additional information on proper configuration.

PS: If you are simply moving the AiMesh node to a new location and keeping the Ethernet backhaul, then you may need to reboot the main router in addition to the AiMesh node. In the end, AiMesh is sometimes flaky (as evidenced by the numerous posts on this site). It sometimes takes some massaging to get AiMesh to work right. For example some recommend using stock Asus firmware on the AiMesh nodes rather than Asus-Merlin firmware.

Thank you very much. I will read it all again and try all the steps recommended one by one. I will report here on success/failure.

Unfortunately that didn't solve the problem either. In fact, when I changed the RP-AX56 backhaul priority from automatic to 5-GHz-WiFi fist, things got worse immediately. Reboot of router didn't help either. I am beginning to suspect that there might be a problem with the WiFi antenna inside. Is there a reasonably uncomplicated way to test for this?

My RP-AX58 works just fine without any problems.

Hmmm... The RP-AX56 seems to work fine as a simple repeater -- but not with AiMesh.

Just relocated my RP-AX58, so I can add the normally unused RP-AX56 into the mix here, to see if I can replicate the issue.
*It's my impression that with just the GT-AX6000 and the RP-AX58 that roaming is improved with router firmware 3.0.0.6.x - impressions can sometimes be wrong!

Thank you for trying this out. Still on Auswrt-Merlin Firmaware: 3004.388.8_2 and when I try to automatically check for updates, it says that I am on the most current version. I could manually update to another version (not Asuswrt-Merlin), but I am reluctant to give up on Asuswrt-Merlin as I need some of the VPN features it provides.

I've just in the last couple of weeks switched away from Merlin (hopefully temporarily) and am using an SBC as a DNS server - First time I've done this where "Guest Network Pro" actually offered some usable benefits for the network here.
On to the subject of disconnections though, I've not noticed any disconnections yet - though since changing to the 3.0.0.6 firmware it does seem that roaming is a little less clingy than previously.
*My HP printer though has to be bound to a node as any change in BSSID midway though a print will lead to a stall.
**I'll keep this running though as using the extra mesh node adds some new flexibility for me thanks to the Guest Network Pro!

I ran the setup for a while on 3006 and then with an updated Merlin on 3004. I can't properly replicate the issue! I do have a Reolink security camera that prefers the RP-AX56 over the RP-AX58 for no good reason, and the perennial problem child Google Home Mini that one day I'll just take a hammer to!
