New Around Here
I just setup the AX11000 router using VPN Fusion with NordVPN. My goal was to have one computer on my network using the vpn exclusively and everything else open to my wan ip. It works as I wanted. Buy what I would like it some way of getting notified if Nordvpn disconnects, as most of then do periodically. Is there some way of doing that? Also if my vpn goes down what happens to the machine that was using it? No connection or revert to the wan ip?

I can't speak to the OEM firmware, but Merlin supports policy based routing w/ the VPN Director and the ability to enable a killswitch should the OpenVPN client fail, thus preventing access to the internet via the WAN. However, there are NO notifications about such failures. For that reason, I create a watchdog script to restart any OpenVPN that fails.

But it only works w/ Merlin.

One of many reasons to consider Merlin instead of the OEM firmware.

Thanks. Been quite a while since I played with third party firmware, back in the Linksys days. I'll look into it. A kill switch is what I'm looking for. I'm not clear on what happens when the vpn goes down on stock firmware, as in does it revert to the WAN.
