Just sharing - I observed a total signal drop after approx. 8 meters (one door in between and closed - same floor) on the stock Asus router firmware. I just switched to the Gnuton version and I only loose one bar. So for everyone who experience the same problem do switch to alternative firmware. Can't believe that Asus cant release a working firmware on a basic feature for such an expensive device.

switch to alternative firmware

Good it's working for you now, but this alternative firmware uses drivers coming from Asus firmware upstream. Asus is getting the drivers from Broadcom. The difference you see may be in different drivers version used in different base firmware, but the 3rd party developers can't modify anything there.

Thats interesting I wasn't aware of this. So the latest stock firmware has older drivers than the fork from Merlin?

Newer drivers are not necessarily better. There was a case in the past drivers in Asuswrt-Merlin were reversed to previous version because of issues. It was for a different model router, but it happens.

Asus sends GPL for Asuswrt-Merlin and the version may be different than the firmware version number they have released. The components inside including drivers may be different versions. New Wi-Fi 7 products are currently work-in-progress and fixing things over time is normal and expected.
