New Around Here
On my Netgear router that I'm upgrading away from, I can enter into the MAC address filter [white]list the actual name of the device.

This is invaluable, because it keeps everything sorted cleanly, and tells me what devices should be removed as time goes on. It also helps me troubleshoot any particular device without having to hunt for the number.

I can't see that possibility in the ASUS manuals I find online. I just see the ability to enter the addresses. This is also the case with the POS router built into my FIOS modem. Addresses only. And it makes a confusing mess.

IS THERE AN ASUS ROUTER that allows me to enter the text name of the device alongside the address?

My custom firmware does (RT-N16, RT-N66U and RT-AC66U supported). I suspect Tomato and DD-WRT also might, if you want to go down the full-custom route.

Filtering specific website for specific MACs isn't possible with Asuswrt. No idea about Tomato or DD-WRT.

No plan for it at this time.
Thanks merlin.
I really do like if this feature will be introduced to asuswrt.
at least filtering ipaddress to specific website.
the one that exist at the moment is global filtering right ?
so if i'm blocking specifc url contain "book", then the facebook, bookbook will be block for all users. right ?

i do really like asuswrt from your release. really do hope if this feature will be added at least anywhere in the future.

I think you are confusing keyword blocking with URL blocking in your facebook/book/bookbook example.

You can also try OpenDNS to block specific sites or kinds of sites (i.e. porn, gambling, etc.), it's easy and free. Good directions & tutorials on their website.

But ya, filtering by MAC is not a feature I've ever needed or explored before, it sounds wildly difficult IMHO! :)

Hey Merlin

I see that the option to filter mac addresses including the name is available, but it still asks you to choose the 2.4GHz band and the 5Ghz band. When you add a MAC filter, will it apply to both networks or do we now have to enter the Mac address to allow twice?

Where are you seeing this? I don't see any band selection on the MAC Filter page.

Hey take a look at the screenshots below. I sent the previous message before I got the router. Now that I installed the custom firmware I found that you do have to add the MAC addresses twice
