Hi everyone, I have always used custom firmware from merlin and I wanted to know if there will be further updates for my router. I know it is not fair to ask but I am honest, a router without merlin firmware can never really give its best.

Of course it's still supported, and will be for a while. There's no ROG version right now, but the non ROG version for the GT-AX6000 will work just fine - the difference is mainly cosmetic. Latest version is 3004.388.8_2.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think there won't be future firmware update for your router? The latest 3004.388.8_2 Asus-Merlin firmware for the GT-AX6000:

Unless Rmerlin changes his mind for some reason your router should continue to receive Asus-Merlin updates so long as Asus continues to provide GPL's to RMerlin for your router model.

This router as well as other AX-class RT Pro and GT models with stock Asuswrt 5.0 released are de facto in Asuswrt-Merlin maintenance mode on the last Asuswrt 4.0 GPL provided many months ago. All new Asuswrt-Merlin Asuswrt 5.0 based firmware is for BE-class routers only. When and if GT-AX6000 (and the others the same generation hardware) will get new base Asuswrt-Merlin is to be confirmed later and depends on when and if Asus provides workable Asuswrt 5.0 GPL. Some of the flagship models like GT-AXE16000 and ZenWiFi ET12 Pro still don't have official Asuswrt 5.0 release.

I would look at RT-BE86U or RT-BE88U if purchasing new router today. At least they have confirmed new base Asuswrt-Merlin coming.

strange mix of routers getting 5.0 from Asus my AX 1100 pro has a release of 5.0 , I just don't use Asus FW , rater wait for Merlin at least I know it will be bug free and stable , most likely going by previous FW
strange the wifi XT 12 gets the 5.0 FW

if 3006 is the prefix for the 5.0 base, seems like asus already released that code for the gt-ax6 back in august.
ASUS GT-AX6000 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_34793

😳 . . . mebe it's me.

Some models only. GT-AXE16000 and ZenWiFi Pro ET12 still don’t have it. The folks paying the most wait the longest.

ASUSWRT 5.0 came out in June 2023 for the GT-AX6000 (3.0.0.6.102_21514), three further updates have followed, the last this month, but that doesn't mean a GPL dump of the source code is available even all this time later, although it would perhaps be a surprise if they hadn't done something by now?

It does lead to a conundrum about whether to stick with Merlin or go back to stock. My plan is to stick with Merlin and hope 5.0 comes along at some point, or until someone tells me there's a serious issue that needs v5 to fix it...

I'm in the same boat: love the Merlin firmware but would be very interested in the new VLAN features. However, at this point, we don't even have a definite answer if there will be Merlin 3006 firmware for the GT-AX6000, let alone a timeline for its release...
