ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 possible with ASUS DSL-AX82U (modem only)?

Hello @doc octopus,
if my answer was too harsh or offended you, I apologise.
That was certainly not my intention.

(As I wrote above, I am not a native English speaker,
so I have to rely on the translator.)

I had now changed the IP addresses, but I noticed one thing:

GT-BE98: 192.168.50.2
DSL-AX82U: 192.168.50.1

The IP range provided by GT-BE98 only starts at 192.168.50.3 - 192.168.50.254

So the question here is whether it can recognise the DSL-AX82U: 192.168.50.1 at all.

I have now made the following settings:

GT-BE98: 192.168.50.1
DSL-AX82U: 192.168.50.2

The IP range provided by the GT-BE98 now starts at 192.168.50.2 - 192.168.50.254.

Nevertheless, both devices cannot really be found.
I have to log on to the DSL-AX82U on the PC via WLAN.

Only then are both devices visible in the Asus Device Discovery Tool.
Only the GT-BE98 remains visible to the PC via LAN cable.

So there appears to be a problem here.

The above settings from the Asus link did NOT work.

I suspect that both devices first have to find each other in the network.
IP address and subnet mask match.

Edit:
This time, I had previously carried out a factory reset at DSL-AX82U.

I only accepted the declarations of consent from Asus.
But I did not carry out any set-up or manual set-up.

If the service requires PPPoE and it uses a VLAN, this may be why you can not reach one router or the other. (I don't have much experience with VLANs except they caused me trouble because we could no longer use the network printers).

As I understand the subnet defines the accessible IPs so 255.255.255.0 means all from 192.168.50.1 to 192.168.50.254 . I think you do not need to worry about that.

The GT-BE98 is set up to use PPPoE, but only works with the Speed port, not the ASUS? The one setting was missing? What happened when you tried the Bridge mode, the second method?

I tried:

Method A:
Enable PPPoE relay
Method B:
Bridge Mode
With 802.1Q enabled (for VLAN 7) / and 802.1Q disabled.

Remove VLAN TAG from WAN Option is missing

The DSL-AX82U finds the Internet and sync also with a high rate, but it is not really logged in because the PPPoE data is missing.

Perhaps I should configure the Asus as a normal router so that the Internet connection is established and only then set it to bridge mode.
Maybe then both devices can find each other.

Edit:
Is there a Merlin firmware for the Asus DSL-AX82U that I could try?

Edit2:
found this:

ASUS needs to be set to router mode with PPPoE. (How did you have it set)?
The login is through the GT-BE98. The DSL-AX82U just translates to/from line data to Ethernet.

I installed Merlin 3004.388.8_2-gnuton1, and it works now!
But I don't think it's really down to Merlin.

It occurred to me that the VLAN 7 ‘tag’ for Deutsche Telekom may only be set in one device (modem or router).
Not in both.

Then I thought:

Maybe the Asus DSL-AX82U really needs the VLAN 7 tag - so I removed the VLAN 7 tag from the BE98.
And since then it worked!

The first thing I saw was that there was an Internet connection in BE98 with an IP address from my provider.

In the Asus DSL-AX82U, however, the Internet connection is not displayed!
The light for the Internet connection is also RED = no Internet.

I will post my settings later.

Edit: sadly, there is a strange behaviour:

all mobile devices says no internet connection > and dont work.

PC via LAN und X-Box Series X via WLAN works..

Hello everyone, a small update from me (as I only just found out):

The key seems to be rebooting both routers after certain settings!
(This is also partly described in some Asus guides).

First of all, I only used the ASUS DSL-AX82U
(reset to factory settings beforehand and only connected to the PC via LAN).

Changed the IP address to 192.168.1.1 and then ran the Internet connection wizard (as a standard router).

There I entered the Deutsche Telekom access data in the ASUS DSL-AX82U.
Just as if it were the only one going online.

I left the Asus GT-BE98 largely unchanged, except that a Zyxel modem was previously used.

The BE98 already had the 192.168.1.2

For Deutsche Telekom, it is essential that ‘manual’ is set for ISP profile and that VLAN 7 is entered (e.g. for the Zyxel modem)

With the DLS-AX82U, however, it is necessary to use this setting HERE and NOT in the BE98!
So I selected ‘none’ in the BE98 ISP profile.

In NATPassThrough, I had activated ‘PPPoE relay
(I'm not sure if it's absolutely necessary, but it was one of the steps that led to success).

In the DLS-AX82U, "PPPoE relay" must also be activated (but this is already preset).

Important: I restarted the router after every setting!

Not to be confused with the waiting time for the setting to be applied!
The router must restart completely!

In the DLS-AX82U, the item ‘Bridge Mode’ must now be added in WAN - Internet connection >> Restart router!

The original item, which was created for Deutsche Telekom, remains, and I did NOT delete it:

(no IPTV entry needed!)

After restarting both routers,

the internet was not yet working 100%, however certain websites, especially from the USA, were not yet working!

After a while, however, they also worked

I suspect that it has something to do with DNS flush/refresh.

The Amazon Firestick also had to be restarted and from then on everything worked 100% - so it's best to restart all clients once.

I didn't have to restart the PC (I had an hour-long RAM test running here, I didn't want to abort).

I'll now wait until the family comes home and see if all their clients are still working.

The DLS-AX82U indicates that it is not connected to the Internet (also LED is red).
But you can see that the modem is active (in the gui).

The BE98 indicates that a connection has been established.

Another important point:
I had disabled the 2.4- and 5-GHz WLAN in the DLS-AX82U

(an orange message appears in the menu indicating that the WLAN is disabled)

and I also restarted the router here.
I hope the information can help others!.

Edit:
Of course, I also connected the BE98 10GB WAN port to the LAN1 port of the DLS-AX82U and the LAN4 port of the BE98 to the DLS-AX82U LAN4 port (to be able to access the DLS-AX82U).

To get rid off the DSL Log:

"pppd[25729]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets"

you have to click clone MAC Adress and
Enable_Internet_Detect = NO

see:

Edit: does not work for me
