Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

The rules are simple: Be patient, be nice, be helpful or be gone!

That results graph is from tests on firmware .164 not .188 but even so it's 5GHz range is superb.

Lets hope Asus updates the Broadcom driver to the new verion 6.x on RT-N66U also.

Broadcom would have to actually optimize it for the older chipsets. As you have seen, that's currently not the case.

BTW, Asus are usually those using the newest driver releases from Broadcom. Last time I checked, Asus's driver was several revisions ahead of those used by DLink and Netgear in their own 802.11ac routers.

Asus have changed alot since the RT-N66U was released, updates being regular and close together, good user support and feed back.

Lets hope it continues.

I like to think that Oleg & Teddy Bear our on their router software team ;)

Take Care

Very unhappy with ac66U 5GHz range/strength

@ Jeremy,
Hi Everybody!
Just wanted to drop in and let you all know that there is an official firmware release that addresses Tx Power, some Media Bridge problems, and QoS issues scheduled to be available by the end of next week.
Even with the latest firmware release, I still cannot get decent throughput @ 9 meters on the 5GHz bandwidth.
In between there are 4 thin wood/plaster "walls" (can't even call them real walls) yet...
Under the floor and over the ceiling there are lots of insulation, A/C ducts, cables, pipes etc

Anyway, I tried to increment power by 30mw steps etc... still unhappy.

Please advice me 3 replacement, high gain, 360°, antennas. All clients within -1.5m from the router's elevation point. If you cannot name make/model due to company policies, please detail tech specs which I have to search for on Amazon/eBay/google to find suitable antennas.

BTW, when will the laptop adapter be on the market?

Thanks.

Hi there,

Sorry for the late reply.

If you would like some help troubleshooting some issues please contact me through email at cl-jeremy@asus.com so that I can help you without clogging up this thread :)

Let me know what you have tried already. For the Tx Power adjustment, some internal tests have shown that going over 120mW can actually increase interference. You can also try changing the channel your 5Ghz. is transmitting at.

Which firmware are you using? This thread is for version .164, while the latest available from ASUS is .220

BTW, when will the laptop adapter be on the market?

Thanks.

If you are asking about an AC wireless adapter, they (both PCIe and USB versions) are expected to release in October.

Thanks, will do.
Will try changing 5GHz channels again (already did).
And maybe I messed up the firmware update as it is not .220
Will PM you by e-mail.
Thank you.

I think Asus have messed up the 246 update!

It says "4. Wireless is configurable in media bridge mode "

But it isn't!! The wireless menu is still missing even after a factory reset. You cannot disable the 2.4Ghz radio in media bridge mode.

The other bug where the bridge mode router fails to find the main router if you are using 5Ghz channels higher than 48 (e.g. 149) is also still broken.

Bah! Not impressed.

Thread bookmarked. Insvested in the RT-AC66U and EA-N66, with the sole purpose on dividing bandwith with another user.
Am not interested in QoS based on applications, but a usercap or guest network cap.

Really not impressed on Asus, on what they say should be a proper QoS.

Will follow this thread. Thanks a lot for putting in the effort!
