ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4561 is out

I'd like to know experts opinion too. I need to buy two of these and I don't want to run in other issues...

The AC87 is in the near future but it doesn't mean you wont have issues. I was a Linksys person for years till they dropped the ball on the personal market. I sought a new router company after that. So I am rather new to the ASUS router market.

Bought my first ASUS 66u router almost a year after it was released and they had just gotten the firmware pretty stable on it. Yes it took about a year. I did buy the 68u when it came out and bleeding edge means you will bleed. We have been bleeding for 5 months at this point.

The 87u makes a departure from the Broadcom chipset so maybe it will have less problems when it is released. So it depends on how long you can wait? and do you mind some teething issues with a whole brand new piece of hardware? The 68U is starting to get to a point where its becoming stable.

I will of course buy the AC87 when it comes out just because I am sadistic like that.

Based on the previous couple of releases, I'd expect the AC87 to be out in November-December.
It looks like it's going to be a totally new platform, so expect lots of issues.
At least with the 68U we should hopefully have a stable version within the next few months.
Personally I'll stick with the 68U for a couple of years, and skip the AC87 for now. I live in an apartment, so all that extra wifi power doesn't do anything for me.

Nobody on my Guest Network and still had reboot on official 4561 - there goes that theory. Starting to wonder if there is a memory leak as Merlin originally suggested. Will need to more pro-actively watch memory.

Reboots only seem to happen overnight when devices go to sleep, etc.

Curious: To those are reporting reboots, have you updated the bootloader with the DDR Configuration Tool from ASUS?

My unit is a re-sell from the low priced Best Buy units a little while ago, and was not updated at the factory (manufactured 2013).

I have not updated the bootloader, and I haven't experienced any reboots for almost 2 days now. Currently running 40_alpha7.

Asus firmware is pretty unified across all their models, so it must be how it is interacting with the AC68's exact hardware. I have not seen people report issues with other models. I have not had any reboots with my AC56U...(and it is clocked at 900/666)...

10 Connected clients - mostly on 2.4GHz. Only Samsung TV on 5.0 GHz right now. Other clients include, Galaxy S3, Nexus 7, iPhone, iPad, Asus Vivobook, Sprint Airave (Wired), Dell Desktop (Wired), HP Laptop (Wired), HP Printer (Wired). Guest network on 2.4 is active, but not in use. WPA2 enabled. 2 x USB2 disk devices attached. AiCloud is enabled.

Same here. So far .583 has been the most stable of the bunch.

I am also using 374.40 Alpha 4 for nearly 24 hours without issue. I had run it for a couple of days then upgraded to Alpha 8. When I saw Merlin post that you needn't go above Alpha 4 if you are not experiencing the "reboot" issue I went back to Alpha 4 and have not had any issues yet with it.

I always have experimented the same issue: my router reboot when a iPad connected at the guest network leave the house.
I can stay days without any reboot, but when my father left my house and his iPad have been connected recently I can see again all LEDs on.

By the by, you know how I can disconnect the LEDs one for all?
What sense does include a power off bottom for the LEDs if every time that you disconnect the wifi or your router reboot the lights change on again?
I can see a disconnect check box in the Merlin firmware, but the behavior of the LEDs is the same that the bottom.

It shows 900/666 when i check it via telent...and I have seen routers with odd clock speeds....i have had it set to this for months....What ever setting it put...it stick for me after reboot....at least it thats what it reports....No idea how to tell if it actually is running at that speed.

Check your BogoMIPS.

cat /proc/cpuinfo

If they still show near 1600, then it means you CPU clock is still at 800 MHz - the nvram setting was simply ignored as it's an invalid value.

The BogoMIPS only increase when using the Turbo mode (haven't updated my bootloader). Changing nvram clkfrq settings via telnet do not affect the BogoMIPS regardless if Turbo Mode is activated or not. I'm just coming onboard with my new AC68U, so either those who are claiming to be running 1200,800 or 1000,800 clkfrqs are either unaware that the nvram is ignoring the request, or I am unaware of the proper way to overclock.

Currently running 40_alpha8, since alpha4 was having issues with IPv6.

One more Frankenbuild for you people who have the pleasure of being able to experience the random router reboots

In this build I'm trying to get closer to the (working) alpha4 build without having to downgrade everything. Please give this a test if you were suffering from random reboots with Asus's 4422/4561, or my alpha 6 through alpha 8 test builds.

This build is using the 583 version of the Ethernet driver, and I also reverted some Kernel code that Asus had changed in 4420.

I use the following commands:

nvram set clkfrq=1000,800
nvram commit && reboot

After the reboot

nvram get clkfrq

Shows 1000,800

But BogoMIPS still shows near 1595

I've tried 1000,666 or 1000,533, and still no joy.

If I use your turbo mode the BogoMIPS jump to near 2000, which I would assume means the CPU did increase.

If I now try 1200,666 or 1200,800, the BogoMIPS remain at 2000.

If I turn off turbo mode by simply pressing the LED button and try the commands again with either 1000 or 1200, the BogoMIPS remains at 1600.

I must be doing something wrong. I've tried the commands in the GUI, and also via telnet.
