ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware - Official Releases

so far been testing the new firmware with two ac87u in media bridge, has been rocked soild, I did enable Beamforming options for both bands ,

The speed has improved significantly (link rate before update jumped between 580-780mbps, now its at 1170mbps-1300mbps), plus no issues with "Br0 issue" everything working great here, Finally I can say my AC87U is working as intended for my usage.

the AP is about 50m away from the Media bridge, So that pretty impressive speeds.

Both have the same hardware so you can use it on 87R's

My ambient temp 72F running at 100% both radios:

Merlin, other experts, does running this unit at 50% or 75% power render any real-life reduction of temps and possibly extend the life of the router?

Firewall v.3.0.0.4.378_4608 are now installed on my AC87U.

So far so good.
I have 14 devices connected (tablets, smartphones, laptops, computers, printer)
UPnP is working good.
No NAT loopback issue
VLAN1 loop seems to be fixed (br0)

- Adaptive QoS is enable (1000/1000 Mb/s)
- Parental Controls is enable
- DHCP Server is enable (Manually assigned 12 IP's)
- SSH is enable
- Tx power adjustment 50% on both bands

Disable:
- AiProtection -Network Protection (gonna enable it later)
- DLNA Media Server
- iTunes Server
- Samba
- FTP
- Universal Beamforming (default disable)

Bugs:
- ? Traffic Manager - Traffic Monitor - Daily (I don't know if it counts correctly now - in previous release it didn't work very well)

Temperatures:
cat /proc/dmu/temperature
CPU temperature : 81 C

qcsapi_sockrpc get_temperature
temperature_rfic_external = 0.0

Running 36 hours now on the latest firmware and everything is fine. Have 12 devices from varying operating systems running and narry a complaint. Ai Protection / Trend Micro, QOS, Download Master running great and for the first time the RT-AC-87u properly identifies the attached hard drive and spins it down when not in use with no special intervention on my end.

After six months of botched firmware Asus appears to have finally nailed it down in with latest firmware v.3.0.0.4.378_4608 - even though still in Beta.

cpu usage is too high, wan to lan performance is not good.

I can hardly see it in your picture but CPU #1 load is 8% on the latest Asus firmware.

Is that too high you think? What is your definition of too high CPU load?

Are you running everything such as Ai Protection / QOS / Download Master / Trend Micro equally on the two separate routers - Merlin's old firmware and the latest from Asus?

Did you do hard reset?

From what Merlin and others have said, a Reset To Factory Default from the dashboard is fine and worked for me.

No, there is a little red botton, side of power botton, you needed press this botton for 30 seconds.

5 seconds is enough and as said before you can do it from the GUI. It's the same effect but easier to implement. The hardware method is indeeed useful if you cannot access the ASUS control panel.

Ok on both my 87u's they have 66u repeaters attached. I upgraded the two 66u's at work and now my 87u signature is 1.032 I'll have to check the home one and see if its the same. So for some may be an issue when a repeater is attached????

It did the same on the home router signature went to 1.032.

Hey guys thanks for the reminder of how to reset my router. I downloaded this new beta FW, man it was causing issues major issues with my wifi?? I inputted all my settings manually and just could not get it to work like the old FW that I had which was, Asus 3.0.0.4.378.3885. Well decided to install Mr.Merlins FW 3.0.0.4.378.51_0, every thing is now working like before, no issues with wifi and no lag on y pc & ps4 gaming. Its werid that I tried a new FW and it gave me issues but if I go with Merlins FW all is good. I use this router for the range and basic internet, not into using alot of the extra features it has.
