I was also curious if anyone would now why they released an update to fix issues with this firmware for the 3100 but not the AC88U, since they seem very similar.

Because when the firmware was released there was a problem with the 3100 becoming bricked as soon as the firmware was installed. Asus fixed this thats why it was updated for the 3100 and not the 88. The 88 never had the issue Asus bumped the revision number up to 15852 to avoid confusion.

No the 3100 was completely bricked. Had to use the recovery tool to load a older firmware till the fix was released a day later. Thank god the recovery tool worked.

yes that is possibility.
I would understand if the problem not easily reproduceable or require unique scenario, however the problem sometime is very obvious right after upgrade, I would expect at least some kind of testing should have been done

Any reasonable person would expect for them to adequately test their code prior to releasing it.

Just hope Asus with their next firmware to fix vlans for iptv, and dual wan load balancing, someone tested new firm with iptv and vlans? Is it run smooth, i even can't set up with 3.0.0.4.382.15850 proper iptv profile, I know wich vlans running on my iptv and internet but crappy firmware always set my profile with voip even i don't have such a service and don't select.

Update: my mobile sip service on my smartphone don't work with wireless network, seems i can make out calls but can't receive in calls. Tested with other wireless network works fine, even i open manual ports - just don't work.

I decided to once again try upgrading my RT-AC88U with firmware 3.0.0.4.382.15850. So far I'm not having issues with WIFI disconnecting or with unusually high router CPU percentages, as I was when I tried this firmware a couple of weeks ago. The only problem I'm still having so far is error messages in the System Log, multiple ones every few seconds, all the same (except for the timestamp!):

Oct 13 20:27:10 dnsmasq[323]: failed to send packet: Operation not permitted

I received this same error message repeatedly after I upgraded last time. Anyone know what this means and if it can just be ignored?

I spoke too soon as today my WAN port just stopped in its tracks even with two isp's connected. Only a soft reset would bring it back which is very strange behavior. My logs show two entries who's timestamp are about 1 hour before I lost all internet access.

I've also noticed that the GUI on the main page became unresponsive before this happened forcing me to click multiple times on the status tab before it changed so I might have to start manually powering it off every couple of days to clear things out.

Just reverse back to 3.0.0.4.380.7743

Just as everyone here I want new firmware that's coming to fix most of the issues, and Asus add some cool features like static IP for client for openvpn will be cool.

I may put an outlet timer on it and set it to completely power it down early each morning while everyone is asleep. Since I reset it yesterday the GUI is slowing down again even though it rebooted itself this morning. Clearly, just rebooting is not enough and the unit requires a complete removal from power to clear itself up.

I'm updating four pc's right now to the 1709 fall creators update and when I looked at the router the WAN port light was red. I checked and all four were still connected and pulling data and upon checking the syslog I see a message stating that the WAN had lost connectivity. Funny how this happened during a period of high traffic.

After seeing so many bugs in RT-AC3100 firmware (bricking the router or some other very obvious issues) and being instructed to flash RT-AC88U firmware on the RT-AC3100 by an actual Asus tech (which also bricks the router and was extremely hard to recover from), I checked the Taiwanese market and realized they don't even sell it there. As seen on https://www.asus.com/tw/Networking/Wireless-Routers-Products/ VS https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/Wireless-Routers-Products/ . This also explains why there isn't an AiMesh beta firmware release for this model. I wish they'd learn more about their own products and put a little more effort into checking the firmware on the actual router before releasing it.

This has been a good release, functional and stable, 10 days and counting on uptime.

Super pleased that the MAC address issues are finally fixed.

Up to 42 days of uptime. One of the best firmware releases in the past year. Knowing my luck the next release will blow something up.
