Hi all,

I have a AX86U, pretty much standard setup, I'm not using smart connect or the 160mhz range, I have traffic analyser off, QOS off, AI protection off. I also don't use AIMesh. I use open VPN. I have a Nest thermostat , Nest protect and a couple of tplink smartplugs as well as several other WIFI devices but these are the main things I'm suspecting may cause a issue.

I am considering upgrading from 386.46061 firmware to the current 22525. Has anyone had any issues with these after upgrading at all?

I'm tempted to upgrade as its been a while but I've read of various issues with other firmware version so I've held off but it's been a while so feel i should really upgrade now if all will be well...

Thanks

Kev

No one here knows what issues YOU may have with YOUR devices. Upgrade your >1-year old firmware, test, report findings to help others.

On my exisitrng 386.46061 the memory is sitting at 45% and the router has been up for over 400 days so looks like mine doesn't have the memory leak issue or i'm not using the things whch cause the memory leaks :)

Fingers crossed the new firmware wont introduce any if ok to update to.

Even from the 386 branch there is 3.0.0.4.386.49599 which contains many security fixes.

thanks, was just hoping someone else had a nets thermostat, nest protect and tplink smartplugs and could confirm if they all worked ok after update.

Was mentioned back earlier in this thread that i was scan reading for any potential issues with updating.

Even if someone has exactly the same clients your Wi-Fi settings, Wi-Fi environment and Region are perhaps different. Your questions have no answer.

It looks like the initial question is, will updating affect my iOT devices. I would say, try what I have, and put your iOT devices on a guest network (if you have problems and see if isolating them from the main network resolves any instabilities introduced.

Also, might want to do a factory rest by going into administration to Restore/Save/Upload settings. Click on the checkbox to initialize and erase settings, and click the restore button. Do this after the upgrade, if you have problems.

Thanks, already have my iOT devices on a separate WIFI network so that's all good. Will try it and see, just hoping they work ok.

OK, do the upgrade, and as I said above, if you run into problems, follow the instructions I gave to do a factory rest, and start with a fresh slate If for whatever reason, the new firmware doesn't work, you can download the firmware you currently have from the asus support page for your router, and manually flash., and then you'd just need to reset again to get back to where you are.

Thanks, I still got my downloaded firmware from before and this version and I've taken a backup of settings so hopefully *if* problems, I can restore the firmware and then import my settings to get back to where i am at the moment. Only stayed o this firmware due to it being stable for me and reports of various issues on other firmware but seems this one is meant to be better from what I've read so far.

Thanks again.

Well, as someone with smart devices, I can tell you the latest firmware has been solid. As I mentioned, in my case I needed to isolate my bulbs to a guest network for their protection against getting flooded off the main network from all the traffic.
EDIT: also reach out to @drinkingbird maybe, they helped me confirm and solve my issues.

While I am a great fan of the AX86U, yesterday my router started acting up. The GUI would freeze and take a couple of minutes to refresh. This on Firefox, Edge and the Asus Android app. I removed the AiMesh node, factory reset and initialized the router with manual configure. Added the AiMesh node back. The GUI still misbehaved. Did a hard factory reset followed by reflashing the firmware with a manual config. Same GUI freeze. The WIFI seemed to work OK but suspecting imminent hardware failure I replaced the AX86U with the AX58U, which is working moderately OK, and placed an order for an AX86U Pro.

Once you get it, let me know overall what kind of performance and stability improvement you get? I've been considering it, but ONLY if it's going to give me something worth the cost over what I have, since my setup is still stable once I made the changes I've talked about.

Still under warranty?

Am not expecting any performance improvements. More features, yes (some of which I may not use). Newer hardware, though.

Ouch. Almost like it knew!
I am planning to try the AX86U as an AiMesh node. With a bit of luck it may last for a while. I may also contact Asus and beg for a warranty replacement but do not expect to get anywhere...

Amazon has the RT-AX86U Pro for $250, I'm tempted to just upgrade. However, that's quite a bit of money to buy something I really don't need. With that said though, do you think Asus is going to discontinue support for the standard models, to push sales of the Pro models. That would be my incentive to upgrade.
