Asus RT 66...

I am in sort of a conundrum myself. I am very interested in the Asus RT66 and the Apple Extreme 5th Gen. But with the new 802.11 ac standard coming out I am not sure if it is worth it to drop 2 Hamiltons for routers that might become obsolete in a couple of years. I realize the new standard main not become mainstream for a while when the new routers are released by Apple and other manufacturers later this year and the clients catch up...I guess my long winded question is do I buy now or wait?

My current set up is a DIR-655 v.A with no IPv6 support. Dual dual stream will be needed once I get an HDTV later this year. Anyway, anyone else consider getting an 802.11ac router? Thanks for any suggestions. ***** Mods feel free to move if off topic. Thanks.

I have had dir-655 for quite some time, now it's decommissioned. Man this Asus beats the crap out of all. Get it you won't regret. It's like in photography if you keep waiting for the perfect camera you will never take any photos. That new standard is likely to have lots of bugs for a long time...

Thanks for the advice. The more I read about this router the more I like it. It has some really nice features and straight forward GUI. My router is end of life as well. Thanks again.

No I have not...It's asking me to sign up to dl it?

You see two files click on the filename RT-N66U_3.0.0.3_114.trx then you come to another page and there you can download it by clicking DOWNLOAD NOW !!!!! It`s not that hard! And you do not have to pay or sign up to download. And yes people have downloaded and flashed with this firmware.
To date 23 downloads have been done. Check the other threads on the forum and there you will see that people has flashed with this one. Sorry for the harch tone but i get annoyed When i post a firmware to be kind and help other users out and i get a not so friendly comment from you!! It`s simple if you don`t like it don`t download it and at the same time don`t mone about it.
EDIT: Here is a direkt link to the file making it easier for you guys http://www.tvestjartarna.se/RT-N66U_3.0.0.3_114.trx

4Shared

I was able to find the free download version on the 4shared page but they don't make it easy! I'm not exactly sure how I did it but it worked. ;)

They make you download their download manager first that includes a toolbar. Once I downloaded .114 I deleted 4shared from my Programs.

They dropped .114 in My Downloads folder.

don't get me wrong, i thank you very much for the upload. I have tried again per your post and still can't download unless i join for free or log in. I understand someone must pay for hosting files and bandwidth, but 4shared just plain sucks. maybe something on my end doesn't allow all the code on they site to run and i cant download.
