Hello Folks,

Looking for a recommendation for a VPN running on the Asus ZenWifi AX(8) version 1. I have researched a handful of the obvious ones e.g. NordVPN, Surfshark, Express VPN, etc.

I am wondering what others ( with n Asus ZenWifi AX(8) ) have loaded and are using successfully. I am looking for ease of use i.e. plug and play.
I have no plans to have a separate VPN router, as I see it as one more thing to manage.

Looking for your recommendation if you have the time. Also what is valuable is the products to stay away from, that's just a valuable.

AND, I can't seem to get a straight answer on Wireguard running on the router with firmware 3.0.0.4_388

Per the ASUS site : WireGuard® is only supported on the firmware version later than 3.0.0.4.388.xxxxx.

Hence my hesitation on what will work and what will not.

Thank you,

OpenVPN on this router will slow down clients using it to ~100-120Mbps WAN-LAN.
WireGuard on this router will slow down the entire network behind it to about ~300-350Mbps WAN-LAN.

thanks ... good info.
That is one reason while I am hesitant to even consider a VPN. The actual value-in-use is questionable at best.

Anyone having general idea how Internet works will smell BS from a mile away:

It sound very similar to scam calls trying to get you credit card information. Calling from the Police department, Revenue agency, your Social Security number was compromised, your bank account was compromised... pay us and we'll fix it for you instantly! Otherwise you're in trouble.
